Alnwick Food Festival

John Christophe Novelli At Alnwich 2011Tickle your tastecbuds this weekend at the greatest foodie event of the North, The Alnwick Food Festival.

Alnwick Food Festival 2012 takes place this weekend, stretching out across Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September. Most famous for being the backdrop of the Harry Potter films, Alnwick is the Northumberland market town that was voted Best Place to Live in Britain by Country Life magazine in 2002. A high accolade indeed.

Come along and devour the culinary delights on display during the festival. These include; over 50 stalls in the marketplace, roving chefs, street entertainers and cookery demonstrations in the Northumberland hall.

Not to mention the piece de resistance that is, an evening with Michelin star chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, starting at 7pm on Saturday night. Sample an exclusive Northumberland buffet showcasing the best of the county’s produce and take part in guest questions while observing the cookery skills of Novelli in the evening’s demonstration segment.

Alnwick Beer Festival also runs parallel to the main event with 30 real ales from local breweries to enjoy just off the market square, in Alnwick Town Hall. Beginning in 2005, the food festival has gained more resounding success each year, attracting over 30,000 visitors in 2011.

This year’s exhibitors include; Doddington Dairy, Allendale Brewery, The French Oven, Truly Scrumptious and Hot Stuff Chilli Company.  Hot food will be supplied in the form of French crepes, a BBQ and hog roast, with fresh-air fare from local butcher R Turnbull & Sons and Indian Street Food from Sachins. You can even start the Christmas countdown by tasting The Proof of the Pudding’s ‘Alnwick Rum Christmas Pudding’, awarded 20/20 by The Independent in 2011.

From confectionary to condiments, there is something for everyone at this weekend’s event and promises to be a great day out for all the family. Savour the spectacular Northumberland scenery whilst tucking into tempting treats galore.
