Ben Cooke Party Hair Tips

Ben Cooke HairStyleNest team up with Ben Cooke, celebrity hairdresser and co-founder of Lockonego salon on Chelsea’s Kings Road to bring you the latest party hair tips, just in time for the festive season.

From wet and windy hair to festive and fabulous, Ben Cooke helps transform your lustre lacking limp locks fit for every party and occasion.

Tip 1. Sixties Up Do

Ideal for longer hair, achieve height and volume by applying a texturising powder to the crown of your hair and then back comb sections beginning with the crown and working towards your neck. The more you backcomb, the more dramatic the end result will be. The Kent backcombing brush is perfect for those who have long hair without a lot of natural volume. Once the hair is backcombed, mould the hair into the desired beehive height. Pin in place and brush the outer layer to smooth it, leaving some ends loose. Adorn with hair jewellery for extra Christmas sparkle.

Tip 2. Slick Ponytail

A slick ponytail is always a great option for party hair, giving you a variety of options of how to wear it.  For a more retro look, give your hair some volume first with some light backcombing to give your hair some height, then sweep the hair into a band at the centre of the head. Leave a section of hair free to wrap around the band and pin in place. If your hair is not long enough for this style why not fake it?  There are plenty of fake hair pieces and ponytails on the market but be careful when matching your hair colour to the fake hair, do it in a good light – or it could give you away.

Ben Cooke HairTip 3. Dramatic & Edgy

If you have short hair, dare to go for something more dramatic and edgy. If your everyday style is smooth and sleek, break it up with a dishevelled glam rock look. The key is a good amount of texturising product, such as Sebastian Molding Mud, to shape and mould the hair. A gravity-defying quiff is bang on trend and is sure to get you noticed. Back comb the hair and mould into shape. Be sure to apply a strong hold hairspray which will give a little shine too.

Tip 4. Glamorous Seventies

Big, glamorous seventies-style waves are huge this season. This is truly a red-carpet look and is worth taking some time over.  Apply a smoothing cream to damp hair and blow-dry with the large-sized Lockonego Signature Boar Bristled Round Brush which is perfect for achieving body and roundness through the ends. Use large heated rollers or large tongs to achieve bold waves and finish with a shine spray, such as Tigi Essensuals Spray Shine. A forties version of this look is oh-so-glamorous and can be achieved simply with a side parting and hair worn flatter on top.

Top Tip

Make sure to give your hair a weekly detox. This is important to remove build-up of products and residues. Over-use of heat can be very drying for your hair so it will need to be re-hydrated and nourished.
