Alexa Chung HAIRchalk Look

Alexa Chung Peacock PlaitAlexa Chung’s new HAIRchalk look is all we’ve been talking about here at StyleNest, transforming her rich brown locks into my little pony plaits.

StyleNest met up with the man behind the rainbow mane, James Galvin, Daniel Galvin Creative Director, who got colourful using L’Oréal Professional temporary hair colour on Chung’s famous locks. HAIRchalks are available in a range of five vibrant, show stopping shades and three subtle hues.

Leading hair colour specialists, James Galvin used ‘First Date Violet’ on Alexa, whilst also adding flashes of ‘Blue Ocean Cruise’ before creating a milkmaid inspired up-do.

“Alexa’s look is really natural, low-maintenance and unstructured so I picked up square inch sections of hair and gently applied the soft violet shade from mid-length to end, making sure to dry in a loose soft wave,” explained Galvin. “With the Peacock Plait I interweaved flashes of blue and finished by pulling out a few hairs around the hairline and loosening it slightly to keep it looking casual.”

James exclusively talks to StyleNest to give us some chalking techniques on how best to get Alexa’s fairytale look.

Step 1.

If you have a fringe, keep it separate and don’t apply any chalk to it.

Step 2.

Apply narrow sections of HAIRchalk around the head.  Keep sections separate until they’re dry.

Step 3.

Score a centre parting and create loose plaited pigtails, plaited up to the very ends. Cross them over on top of your head and pin them to create a ‘milkmaid’ look. Loosen the hairs around the head to keep the look really casual.

A fun and playful statement without the commitment, HAIRchalks offer a modern but temporary look which can be simply washed out after three shampoos if you want to change your look or mood.

Seen at Felder Felder SS14 and Ashish, new HAIRchalks are makeup for hair, offering a rainbow of shades from Sweet Sixteen Pink to First Date Violet and Blue Ocean Curise to Garden Party and Coral Sunset. Or for a more subtle look, Coffee Break, Bronze Beach and Black Tie offer a great way to dip dye without going all the way.

“The thing that appeals to me about the HAIRchalks is that it’s brave bold colour for people who usually shy away from wild hair experiments. The wash out aspect is almost as genius as how effective the dye is in the first place. James Galvin kindly stuck to my “my little pony” brief and created a rainbow effect with the violet and blue hair chalks that he then plaited into milkmaid braids. A fun and playful statement without long term commitment. My kind of relationship.” – Alexa Chung, IONA Colour Ambassador.
