Claridge’s To Host David Downton Exhibition

Iconic, luxury London hotel, Claridge’s are playing host to a fashion exhibition during this September’s London Fashion Week, as David Downton’s famous illustrations go on show.

Midnight at Noon (and Other Stories) is a showcase of Downton’s classic Fumoir series – a homage to Claridge’s Fumoir Bar and the famous faces that have graced the Mayfair landmark. Included in the series are designers Diane Von Furstenberg, Paul Smith and Alber Elbaz and starlets Joan Collins and Dita Von Tease, as well as models Laura Bailey and Downton’s favourite muse, Erin O’Connor.

“Over the years some of our most iconic guests have been captured on camera and we feel David’s drawings add another dimension to the already established archives of Claridge’s,” said the hotel’s general manager, Thomas Kochs. “David Downton has been a long-time friend of the hotel and we have admired his work for many years. It is a pleasure to share David’s talent with our guests.”

Downton is currently Claridge’s artist in residence and the exhibition is a celebration of this too. With the hotel’s art deco credentials and Downton’s signature elegant style, the pairing is a match made in heaven.

“Being artist in residence at the most beautiful hotel in London has, as I’ve often said, been the gig of the century,” said Downton. “I expected the luxury, of course, and the service, but who knew about the magic? Claridge’s is Claridge’s and everywhere else is everywhere else.”

Midnight at Noon (and Other Stories) will launch the same day as London Fashion Week, running from 13 – 18 September. If you’re in the city during LFW, be sure to pop into the Mayfair hotel. We certainly will be.
