British designer Christopher Kane appoints a new CEO, adding to the brand’s rapid global expansion.

Christopher Kane has hired himself a new boss today, as he appointed former Kering financial communications and market intelligence director, Alexandre de Brettes.

The announcement is the first major move in the brand’s global expansion, after French luxury conglomerate, PPR bought a 5% stake in the Christopher Kane brand back in January.

With plans to launch a bag and shoe division of the Kane brand, this appointment suggests that the brand, which launched just six years ago, is set to become one of the world’s largest luxury labels.

Christopher will remain in creative charge, whilst his sister Tammy who he co-founded the brand with will keep her role of deputy creative director.

“We are delighted that Alexandre is joining our company,” said Christopher and Tammy Kane in a joint statement. “His experience at Kering is invaluable to us and his understanding and appreciation of our creative culture was what drew us to him. Alexandre’s appointment puts the running of our business in very good hands and gives us a strong ally in the building of our company.

World leading apparel and accessories brand, Kering’s impressive portfolio includes the likes of Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga, and currently holds a 51% in the Christopher Kane brand.

“I am thrilled to join Christopher Kane,” added De Brettes. “With Christopher, Tammy and the whole team, my role will be to bolster the growth of this extraordinary fashion house around the world, protecting its creative heart and capitalising on its unique identity.”

The role will take effect on 1 September 2013, with the expansion of the Christopher Kane accessories lines and flagship store opening expected to follow soon after.

From Scots boy to Central Saint Martins, NEWGEN to the world’s most powerful brand players – this story is a real life fashion fairy tale.
