Pearl Lowe

Pearl LoweStyleNest take five minutes out with mum, musician, designer and all round stylish lady, Pearl Lowe.

A member of the 90s Brit Pop elite, mum to one of the UK’s most successful models, an author and a fashion designer – is there no end to Pearl Lowe’s talents? Her rock star credentials, eclectic sense of style and enviable wardrobe confirm Pearl is one of Britain’s coolest mums, so we had to meet with her.

We met up with the London based mum of four, to find out all about her unique, vintage inspired style, steal a few expert music recommendations, and hear all about her latest beauty partnership with GlossyBox.

You’ve teamed up with beauty brand, GlossyBox this spring. Tell us a little about the collaboration.

I’m a big fan of the brand, so I was excited when they asked me to design a box for them. I adore beauty, and was thrilled to be asked. It really is such a treat to receive a box of products every month and I love the concept.

The box is partly inspired by your love of floral. Do you have a favourite flower?

It would have to be vintage roses.

You have four children all of very different ages, is it hard to please all of them all the time?

Tell me about it, I’m right in the middle of the Easter holidays and the only thing they all like doing is going to is Thorpe Park. We are now going for the 3rd time.

Your daughter Daisy is hugely successful in her modelling career and your youngest daughter Betty helped design your childrenswear collection for Peacocks – you must be very proud. Have you encouraged them to follow their talents from a young age?

Not at all actually, it must just be in their blood. Of course I am a very proud mumma.

Did your style change during or after pregnancy and as you entered motherhood?

Not really, I just bought bigger floral dresses and tights that expanded.

You’re an expert in all things vintage. Do you have a favourite vintage piece in your wardrobe?

My husband Danny bought me a vintage 1920s black beaded dress when we first met and I still wear it. It’s so pretty.

Who are your top three designers and top three high street stores?

For designer it would be Vivienne Westwood, Anna Sui and Marc Jacobs, and high street Topshop, Zara and River Island.

What’s your failsafe look when you have moments to get ready? A black dress with lace collar, black tights, Chie Mihara lace shoes.

You must have collected some amazing clothes over your career, are there any items you have kept to pass down to your girls?

I have a long satin purple high-neck Alexander McQueen dress that he gave me many years ago, which I will keep for my girls.

What beauty product could you not live without?

Dr Sebagh foam cleanser, in fact all his products work wonders on mature skin.

Juggling a successful career and motherhood must be tough. How do make a balance between the two?

I don’t feel as though I am right now, as I’m super busy. I guess I just don’t really have a social life, one thing has to give and it’s that at the moment.

Which other mums out there inspire you?

I love Gwyneth Paltrow, she seems like she puts her family first, but has a successful career at the same time. I also love Angelina Jolie, for what she does for Africa. They are both very inspiring ladies.

Describe your home and interiors style.

I love French antiques and anything gothic.

What book are you reading at the moment?

I’m currently reading Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs, but my all time favourite book has to be Wonderland Avenue by Danny Sugarman.

We are always looking for new recipes on StyleNest, do you have a failsafe family dish you swear by?

A good old fashioned roast, it’s the only thing I can cook and the kids love it.

Do you have any holidays planned this year and if so, where?

We have just got back from Morocco, which was truly magical and in the summer we are going to Greece with friends.

As a musician, what do you recommend putting on our iPods?

I’m listening to Richard Hawley’s new album. I toured with him back in the day and he is a very talented man.

How would you spend the perfect day with your family?

Sitting in front of a fire watching an old film.

The Pearl Lowe for GlossyBox edition box is priced at £10 (+P&P) and will be available from April 2013.
