Marios Schwab for ASOS
London based, Greek designer Marios Schwab has announced he will be teaming up with fashion porthole, ASOS to launch an exclusive lingerie collection this season.
London Fashion Week attendees will get a sneak preview of the collection this week, as it’s unveiled at LFW with a glittering event including a performance from iconic French cabaret, Crazy Horse.
The partnership has been funded by ASOS’s designer support initiative, ASOS Inc. and will not only offer a piece of Schwab’s work to fashion fans at an affordable price point, but also propel the designer into a more commercial area of the fashion industry.
Although lingerie is a first for Schwab, the 40 piece strong capsule range draws heavily from his mainline womenswear collections and signature style. Renowned for his intricately constructed gowns, second skin-like sleeves and structured bodices; there’s a definite lingerie feel to his work. This translates perfectly into the ASOS collection which has been named, Kallisti, meaning “for the fairest” in Greek.
Kallisti will officially launch in November with 25 initial pieces and the remaining 15 will hit ASOS online in January. Although currently under wraps, we’re told the collection comes in dark, romantic and earthy tones of berries, midnight blue and autumnal mustard. The embellishments and details however are much more elaborate, including everything from taffeta to metal plates, lace to sequins. We’re presuming this is lingerie not intended to be warn under clothes.
Schwab’s own father was in fact a lingerie engineer, so his foray into the area seems somewhat significant. With some fab collaborations already launched or in the pipeline this season, from J W Anderson’s Topshop collection to H&M’s anticipated Margiela range, there’s some serious pressure to deliver. But we’re sure Schwab’s Kallisti collection will be a huge success.
The Marios Schwab for ASOS Kallisti lingerie range will launch online at ASOS.com November 2012.
