Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

Maison Martin Margiela for H&M - model wearing white coat with dove Possibly the most anticipated designer-high street collaboration of 2012, Maison Martin Margiela for H&M is soon to hit stores.

Put November 15th in your diaries, as H&M’s latest designer diffusion line is to hit stores. Following in the footsteps of Stella McCartney, Lanvin and Marni, Maison Martin Margiela is the latest luxury brand to take its designs onto the high street with an affordable capsule collection.

Comprising womenswear and menswear, the collaboration showcases the Belgian fashion house’s signature avant-garde style – deconstructed tailoring, oversized proportions and a lot of modern monochrome.

The campaign for the collection has been shot by renowned British artist and director, Sam Taylor-Johnson who is famed for her surrealist self-portraits and BAFTA nominated film, Nowhere Boy. The campaign sees male and female models showcasing Margiela’s innovative designs against urban city backdrops.

I wanted to create an atmosphere that was both quiet and still. That each person was in their own emotional and physical thought space. A world away from the heady atmosphere of the usual urban noise,’ Taylor-Johnson said of the campaign.

Of course this isn’t Maison Martin Margiela’s usual high-end line, but one for the consumer market and so is much more watered-down and wearable than the mainline pieces.

Highlights of the collection are without a doubt the outerwear pieces. We have our eye on the black oversized peacoat priced at £149.99. Considering the sheer volume of material worked into this statement coat it’s extremely affordable and one of the thriftiest buys of the season.

The cornflower blue draped dress, priced at £99.99 is another highlight. With an asymmetrical drape sleeve and nipped in waist, it’s flattering, elegant and crying out to be in our wardrobes this season.

For the braver among you, the nude body with illusion print bra top (£29.99) and washed oversized denim jeans (£39.99) nod to Margiela’s trademark offbeat aesthetic.

Maison Martin Margiela is perhaps a lesser known name in the commercial sense to partner with H&M, but this collection will hopefully give the label the attention it deserves.

The Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection will be available in store and online from November 15 2012.
