King Street Townhouse, Manchester

Billed a baby grand hotel, my Mr and I headed over to the fabulous King Street Townhouse in Manchester this weekend.

Enjoying a lovely warm welcome and wall-to-wall boutique hotel features, we ventured to our Comfy Room, comprising a super king bed and bath in the actual room. Yes, really- pure indulgent city elegance was to be had over the next 24 hours. Gorgeous light-fittings, airy shutters, stylish wall décor and a luxurious bathroom all stood out for me straightaway.

There are 40 premier bedrooms and suites at the Grade II listed King Street Townhouse, which you’ll find within the Upper King Street conservation area of Manchester. Part of the Eclectic Hotel Collection, this divine destination set in an Italian renaissance building is also joined by sister hotel, Great John Street. Another luxurious hotel, within a converted Victorian school, each townhouse brings its own design flair and impressive details.

Located centrally, we then headed out into Manchester, popping across to nearby Selfridges for a bit of window shopping. On our way back, we stopped in at the hotel’s integral bar and restaurant, King Street Tavern. Parched and ready for a snack before exploring further, we sipped drinks while the team made me a gluten-free salmon sandwich. Watching the buzz and ambiance of this vibrant hub, decadent details also include a mezzanine area where you can eat while looking out onto the restaurant, plus a beautifully decorated lounge next door for afternoon tea.

The Cellars is a brand-new bit of the hotel, boasting exclusive private dining experiences and screening room. The heart of this hotel to me is hidden extra special details, which you’ll find throughout. Probably the piece de resistance being their south-facing rooftop infinity spa pool, in which you can while away time looking out at the city. Making for an extremely Insta-friendly shot, there’s something supremely romantic about enjoying a view of the city’s spires and clocktower together in such a special way. There’s also a steam room and relaxation area to sample.

Getting ready to go out for drinks and dinner, I decided to check out the South Terrace first. A rooftop view, you can sip cocktails on the balcony and immerse yourself truly in the city. Heated and with an overhead canopy too, the terrace is a lounge with unbeatable sixth floor views.

Before sleep, I had a gorgeous Temple Spa bubble bath in the room, beginning my pre-bed relaxation. Snuggling under the covers, we watched a bit of TV in bed with a cuppa before settling down to sleep in the comfiest hotel bed ever. Special credit has to go to the ideal pillows and duvet, which were the dream team, quite literally.

Heading down to breakfast, which you can alternatively enjoy in your room at no extra cost, we went back to the luxurious King Street Tavern. I tucked into eggs Benedict while my husband had avocado, chilli and poached eggs on toast. We also enjoyed fresh juice, coffee, berries, pastries and yoghurt. A really relaxed affair, I loved sinking into sumptuous seating while getting a kick start on the day.

After a wonderful, relaxing, deluxe stay, we left King Street Townhouse raving about our escape. One to book if you’re heading to Manchester soon, I’d recommend making that trip. I know we will be back before long too.
