Cameron House

Cameron House Resort Cameron House is a five-star country house resort located on the banks of Loch Lomond, just 25 minutes away from Glasgow. StyleNest sent mummy blogger Mathilde to check it out with her two little ones in tow.

Cameron House, a magnificent baronial mansion is surrounded by 100 acres of woodland and is set within possibly one of the most beautiful spots in Scotland.

Upon arrival at Cameron House, everything was effortlessly taken care of, from our car to luggage, instantly we knew we were in good hands.

The main building dates back to the 18th century, and the the stylish interior combines contemporary design and quirky details with classic touches from Scotland’s baronial past. This is a combination that can be very difficult to perfect however Cameron House have successfully achieved the balance between the two, creating a grand yet relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Our butler George (yes butler) took us to our suite, where two Cameron House teddies were waiting for the girls – such a lovely touch. The suite was beautiful and very spacious. There were two travel cots in our bedroom, and the girls instantly felt very comfortable, which boded really well for the rest of the weekend. The Hotel has 103  classic bedrooms and 26 stunning suites all complete with Bose music systems and a plasma television – this certainly made the other half happy.  There are also several suites over looking the Loch and a signature suite complete with private balcony and a private cinema.

Cameron House is an incredibly family friendly place and most importantly they cater for children of all ages. From a crèche to treasure hunts, little ones will never be short of something do – which means you can enjoy a little “me time”.

I was so impressed with the crèche, it had the feel of a lovely nursery and was complete with fully qualified staff. Kelly Court, the activities manager, explained to me that they are in the process of expanding the children’s area, which should be ready for the summer. The crèche is £8 an hour, and has daily activities such as Messy Day, or Music and Dance Time, Baking Activities and more. Babies as young as 6 weeks can go to the crèche. Please note however that it is advised to book, especially during peak season and the crèche is closed on Sundays.

During peak season, older children (5-12 years and 12-16 years) can choose from a very wide range of indoor or outdoor activities such as Ranger Games, Treasure Hunts, A Pool Table Competition, The Mini Bird Safari, Table Tennis and many, many more.

There are also activities for the whole family to enjoy together such as Build a Bear, Pizza Making and Arts and Crafts. They really have thought of everything for the modern family.

But the main attraction at Cameron House is without a doubt  The Carrick Spa and its amazing swimming complex. However, unlike many hotel spas, Carrick Spa focuses on being as family friendly as possible whilst still maintaining tranquility and calm. There are 3 different pools, one for adults, one for children and adults with a great water slide, and a small and warmer one for babies. Rose and Jane loved it, and didn’t want to leave. One detail that I really appreciated as a mother was the travel cot in the changing room of the leisure club. I was able to put Jane in a safe place while getting changed – a simple touch but one that made the whole experience even smoother.

There’s also golf and a state of the art leisure club for those feeling a little more energetic. Alternatively take a trip on the Loch and see all the sights on the hotel’s Celtic Warrior or for a special treat, take flight on the seaplane that flies over the Loch during the summer months.

Cameron House also has a babysitting service, provided by Safehands with babysitters coming to your room to look after your children. Everyone needs a night off and it’s great to know that little ones are in the best possible hands so you can relax and enjoy your evening. Comfort and relaxation are key to your stay at Cameron House. Staff are attentive and will cater to your every need. However with impecable service they still manage to maintain a relaxed and informal atmosphere. And they were all great with Rose and Jane.

With four restaurants to choose from you and your family will be spoilt for choice throughout your stay. The Cameron Grill is the place to go for a heartier meal in possibly their most stylish restaurant, or if you prefer something a little lighter head to the New England style Boathouse for a lighter snack and great views over the marina. Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond is the latest restaurant to open at Cameron House by Michelin Star Chef Martin Wishart from Edinburgh, whose aim is to deliver a memorable Scottish dining experience working with the freshest seasonal and local ingredients, using classic and contemporary methods of cooking. Whichever you choose I recommend a visit to the Whisky bar for a night cap where there are over 270 single malts on offer.

Cameron House successfully combines luxury with comfort, style with tradition.
