We’re big believers in the benefits of pilates so we sent one mum-to-be to review the pregnancy class at at Kings Cross Studios.

Your body goes through a huge amount of change and stress during pregnancy, so it’s important to aid the natural process through mental and physical preparation. A way of achieving both of these can be through Pilates.

The Pregnancy Pilates session at Kings Cross Studios involves one-to-one tuition which is ideal for any expectant mothers who are daunted at the thought of going to a group class and feel like they could benefit from having a instructor’s undivided attention.

The class is lead by instructor Yuko, who immediately puts you at ease by warming you up with some gentle breathing exercises.  A typical session of Pregnancy Pilates will focus on pelvic floor exercises; however, Yuko will also tailor the class to your specific needs. For example, if you’ve been experiencing back problems during your pregnancy Yuko will centre the session around that in order for you to gain the most out of each class.

The exercises are slow, gradual and alternate between work on the pilates’ machines as well as on the floor. Unlike in group classes, you have Yuko undivided attention meaning you can work slowly and comfortably through each exercise despite any problems or difficulties you may face.

If you are worried or concerned about exercise during pregnancy, Pilates is an ideal way to keep your body supple and your mind clear. One-to-one tuition with Yuko at Kings Cross Studio costs £60, but you will receive a discount if you block book.
