Party season is here, hurrah! As much as we love slipping in to our favourite LBD and getting dolled up, being body confident and feeling our best is never harder than in the depths of winter.

If you need a little confidence boost too, follow out top tips from Simple’s nutritionist Fiona Hunter, and you’ll be looking your best and on the dance floor in no time.

Tip 1: Salt Ban

Too much salt can cause water retention which can lead to a bloated belly. With all the rich, salty party food around throughout December this can be hard to avoid, but cutting it out of your regular meals could help. Other foods that can cause tummy bloating include beans, pulses, cabbage and fizzy drinks, so it’s a good idea to cut down on these too, especially a few days before your big event.

Tip 2: Sensible Snacking

Go for low GI snacks such as nuts, seeds and dried fruit – and there are plenty of those around at this time of year. These will provide your skin with nutrients, help balance blood sugar levels and satisfy hunger pants the healthy way. For a pre-party snack, eat a bowl of cereal and a couple of oatcakes spread with reduced fat cheese or hummus as it will line the stomach ready for a Christmas cocktail or two, as well as give you a slow energy release without feeling heavy.

Tip 3: Tip Top Tummy

Cut down on sugar, alcohol and carbs and start taking a probiotic supplement approximately two weeks prior to party season. This will help to boost levels of friendly bacteria in your digestive system, which can help reduce a swollen belly.
