As the cold days and the long dark nights draw in, we all react to it differently. Some people love the cosy, hygge feeling that comes with the colder months, and others can’t wait to see the greenery and sun burst through again. With lockdowns and isolation taking something of a shine off our summer months this year, we’ve brought together a list of autumn/winter accessories for you and your home that will bring a warm glow to the cold months.

1.   Cosy gear

There are few pleasures as simple as taking a walk on a crisp cold-yet-sunny morning. So, as obvious as it sounds, get yourself equipped with a good quality pair of gloves, a warm scarf and a hat.

It’s so important to get out and about – not only for exercise but also for your mental health. So, making sure you have the right gear for a short lunchtime walk, taking your dog out, or your commute will make the changing weather an enjoyable and more mindful part of your day and ensure you aren’t concerned about your freezing cold fingers.

2.   Rainproof yourself

A good coat and umbrella are an absolute must in the winter months. You’ll need something showerproof to wear, at the very least, and something that will protect you from that fearful type of wind that ‘goes straight through you’. When it comes to an umbrella, you’ll need something sturdy and ergonomic that can go with you in the car and in your bag – and that doesn’t break after weathering two rain falls!

3.   Hand warming devices

Pop a little reusable gel pack – or a shake and heat sachet – into your coat pockets. You’ll barely notice them until you are unexpectedly waiting in the cold for your Uber… and then you’ll thank us! You can even make your own out of fleece and fill with uncooked rice – just heat them up in the microwave before you head out on a walk. These are inexpensive and will really help you to get through any outdoor expeditions in the colder weather.

4.   A slow cooker

Investing in a slow cooker will change your winter meals forever. Not only will your house smell delicious all day long, it will add a little extra heat to your kitchen and simplify your meal prep too. It can give you the chance to prepare meals for the entire week, in one go, as well as creating flavoursome and healthy options to warm you up at dinnertime. It’s crucial to eat well in the cold weather to boost your immune system – so go for seasonal veggies in stews as well as slow cooked curries and soups with a good dash of warming ginger, garlic and turmeric to keep colds at bay.

With these four things in your arsenal, you’ll be able to tackle whatever winter throws at you. Keeping your mind and body healthy and active are so important in the colder seasons, and we hope our suggested accessories will be just the ticket for a successful season for you and your home.
