Over the summer by chance I got chatting with Rowena Shotton, co-founder of handmade jewellery business, Pretty Serendipity.
Both living in Northumberland, we bonded over our kids being at the same sports club and our fellow creative ventures. Really inspired by Rowena’s jewellery journey, I distinctly remember her telling me about making a recent customer’s order and the importance their story held. She explained that often orders have a sentimental meaning attached, whether this follows a family bereavement or birth celebration. Each-and-every order placed has equal meaning, and the independent business’s appreciation of that really struck me as special.
As such, Pretty Serendipity is a growing family-run business committed to treating every customer with care, detail and love. With collections spanning across necklaces, bracelets, bangles, milestone birthday gifts and personalised jewellery pieces, Rowena created the brand after experimenting with simple silversmithing. This followed an earlier enterprise creating handcrafted gifts such as candles and soaps and selling them online. Combining her passion for bespoke gifts and simple yet timeless jewellery, the business was officially born in 2015.
Keeping in touch over Instagram, Rowena asked my children’s names and two days later, a beautiful necklace arrived. Packaged in a luxurious box and gift wrap, a handwritten note was placed inside and I found a polishing cloth too. The sterling silver Personalised Two Ring Russian Necklace with Heart (£59) depicts each name on intertwined yet free moving Russian rings, complete with a tiny silver heart hanging in between. Chic, stylish and worn close to my heart, the hand-stamped piece has been crafted with expert care and attention. With a ring diameter of 23mm, it is the ideal size to be both noticeable and extremely wearable.
A keepsake I will treasure and wear every day, its origins aptly come from Russian rings traditionally being a symbol of strength, unity and everlasting love. You can instantly see the intricate process involved in making the piece, and that is evident across all Pretty Serendipity jewellery.
Other standout pieces (of which there are many), include: Remember You Are Braver Than You Believe Triple Bangle (£125), 30th Birthday Textured Necklace with Birthstone (£49), Personalised Eternity Necklace (£55) and lots of message and quote options.
With Christmas on the horizon, or just as an excuse to treat yourself to something truly meaningful, here at SN we’d thoroughly recommend taking a peek at Pretty Serendipity.
