OneWildOne

Hi Lauren, it’s great to meet you…do tell me
What led to the launch of OneWildOne?

I decided to launch OneWildOne because I saw a void in the market that I wanted to and knew I could fill. At the time, there wasn’t anyone creating fun, unique and intricate jewellery designs with durable and sustainable materials, at an affordable price point.

I studied fashion at university and my first job was in buying at Topshop. I loved it (and miss the Oxford Circus store more regularly than I should admit) but my career took me into a path of more tech-focused startups. After being one of the first employees at Deliveroo, I had a few more roles at other early-stage ventures, but after a decade I realised I missed the creative outlet.

From the moment I decided to start the business, I felt so motivated to pursue my passion and I realised that was what would be the North Star of the brands success.

What’s in the name? Why OneWildOne?

It is an ode to all the wonderful women I am lucky to know. Women are strong, powerful and resilient. The name is a reminder to be unapologetically you. Embrace your imperfections and never let anybody stand in the way of the woman you are becoming.  Be your own definition of wild, always.

What’s your favourite piece in the collection?

It changes daily based on my outfit! I typically like to go for a monochromatic look. I figure out what I am wearing that day, then stack my jewels all in a similar hue. In winter months, I gravitate more towards our classic pieces with a twist. In summer, I am very much into all the rainbow-coloured pieces!

And who picks the names of the pieces? As I am loving the names…

Thank you! As all the pieces are so personal and have significance, I chose phrases I use that have the same requisites – 1) they have meaning and 2) they make you feel good!

For example, a special name in the next collection is ‘Lightning Or Bust’. As a huge fan of the TV show Ted Lasso, I often use Roy Kent’s line ‘“Don’t you dare settle for fine. You should feel like you’ve been struck by lightning.”

These words really got me. Because let’s face it, life is about choices. Contentment shouldn’t be anyone’s currency.

What does a typical day in the life of OneWildOne look like?

As the founder, my role is multifaceted. I oversee the design process, work on brand strategy, manage the wholesale side of the business, and ensure that every piece aligns with our brand’s vision. Additionally, I am deeply involved in marketing, focusing on building a strong brand presence for OneWildOne.

My mornings start with a workout to clear my mind and get energised for the day. After breakfast, I dive into reading emails, checking sales figures and planning the day’s agenda. I typically spend time designing new collections, meeting with suppliers, and coordinating with my team. Afternoons are often reserved for strategy meetings, pitching to new retailers and collaborations. I also dedicate part of my day to social media and marketing planning. Evenings are for winding down, spending time with friends, or attending networking events.

What advice would you give to other female entrepreneurs?

“Follow your instincts and never compromise on your core values.” This advice has helped me navigate the challenges of building a brand while staying true to what I believe in.

Secondly, it would be that cash will make or break you, so empower yourself by understanding the numbers and keeping a close eye on them. I’m firstly a creative and secondly a business owner, so I’ve had to really work at this.

What is your inspiration behind the pieces?

My aesthetic is classic, modern, and playful. I like to create timeless, demi-fine jewellery that is an interchangeable form of self-expression, adding a touch of fun to any outfit, and for women of any age. I want to create jewellery that makes people happy!

What are you most proud of in your journey so far?

Within a week of launching the business, I was invited by Wolf & Badger to not only become part of their global online offering, but also to be a vendor in their physical store on Melrose Avenue in LA. After months of creating the brand and designing the pieces, alongside the website and marketing behind closed doors, to have this instant validation and positive feedback and see the brand come to life was very, very special.

What’s next for OneWildOne?

The opportunities are limitless! I see growth coming from several places. Ultimately, the dream goal for OneWildOne is to continue growing our brand around the world while staying true to our roots. I am prioritising the expansion of our in-store availability, working to be more present in new markets and places. Our SS collection is my favourite to date and I think that it will continue to define the brand aesthetic and grow the community of Wild women.
