National Gallery Kids Storytelling Sundays

storytelling sundaysHead to the National Gallery kids Storytelling Sundays for a wonderful weekend outing for all the family to enjoy.

Planning a weekend with the kids in tow can often be more of a hassle than a pleasure, so we are pleased to recommend the National Gallery’s Storytelling Sundays for kids, which takes place whilst sitting on a magic carpet. This is a magical activity that the kids are sure to love.  Each week, the carpet lands at a different painting in the gallery and the story behind it is told to the little ones.

Storytelling Sundays take place at the National Gallery every Sunday from January 20th onwards from 10.30–11am and 11.30–12pm. Guests are asked to meet in the Pigott Education Centre Foyer. There is no need to book, but places are limited and allocated on arrival up to one hour before the start. Children must be accompanied to all events.

The National Gallery also plays host to a wide variety of family friendly activities. If the magic storytelling has excited your little one, they can also take part in free hands-on art workshops and drawing sessions every Sunday, so you can see if you may have the next Picasso or Monet on your hands. The next event takes place on Sunday 20th January and the theme is Postcards From Arcadia, where participants will create a world inspired by the myths and legends of French painter, Claude Lorraine.

The National Gallery also offer free ‘walk and talks’, where they invite families to join museum staff on an accompanied tour through the gallery. Stories behind the paintings will be told and made enjoyable for the kids, too.

Visit the National Gallery website to find out further information on the range of family friendly and children’s events they are currently hosting.
