East London’s much loved Victoria Park plays host to the BT London Live festival this Olympic season.
If you missed out on Olympic tickets fear not, you can still watch the games in the heart of Hackney at East London’s Victoria Park festival. BT London Live Victoria Park runs throughout London 2012 (27 July – 12 August), and gives families the chance to get involved in the Olympic action, watch the sporting events and catch some live music – all absolutely free.
Hackney’s famous and much loved green space, Victoria Park will be transformed into all things Olympic with everything from a 55 meter high observatory wheel with stunning views of the Olympic stadium, to three giant screens to watch and cheer on the likes of Rebecca Adlington and Chris Hoy.
Tickets are free of charge but the site is sure to fill up fast each day, so you may want to pre-book the limited guarantee tickets which cost as little as £3.50. There is plenty on offer to keep little ones entertained from musical performances from the likes of Alexandra Burke to a zorbing pool which allows you to swim without getting wet (as crazy as it sounds).
The BT London Live festival will be putting on their very own miniature Olympic Games, with their Have-A-Go Sports events. Each day, old and young can compete and put themselves in the shoes of our Team GB heroes in events from athletics to volleyball.
If you’re planning on a relaxing, less strenuous visit however there are plenty of cultural experiences to indulge in too. From outdoor theatre from Belgian Arts company Theatre Tol, to ‘The Zone’ where kids (and big kids) may learn a thing or too about the way their bodies work during sport.
And of course, watching the games and cheering on the hopefuls is at the top of the daily agenda with three giant screens dotted around the park. Olympic events will be shown from 11am daily, so grab your union jack flags, pack a picnic rug and head over to London’s East End.
