Ellen DeGeneres Bedroom
The talk show host favours smart tuxedos with barely-there make-up on the red carpet and she uses the same stylish minimalism in her home, too. Ellen DeGeneres recently bought back a property she sold in 2007 and photographs of the interior have found their way online.
You can recreate the same stripped-back elegance by choosing white for nearly every wall – white doesn’t look clinical when you add one feature wall that uses deep blue and green, which is why Ellen has strategically placed this deep blue and green mural on the wall above her double XL bed. If you can’t afford to invest millions in a piece of art like Ellen, go for a wall mural instead. This beautiful blue mural from Photowall is a good alternative and will bring your white room to life.
White floors are also key to this look – if you have carpet, it’s worth ripping it up and investing in a floor-sander. You can hire the machine and do it yourself, then paint your exposed floorboards for a shabby chic look. Ellen has added a large, folksy rug in a neutral colour – it stops the room from looking empty and provides some comfort from the harsh look of the exposed floorboards, you can find a similar one from Ikea.
Add some colour to the bed too, but rather than match your cushions to your feature wall (which would look too contrived) go for a contrasting colour like Ellen has. One or two of these burnished orange cushions, also from Zara Home, would look fantastic against a blue piece of art or wall mural.
