The Hunting Cabin at The York & Albany

London’s love for a good pop-up continues this January with the launch of The Hunting Cabin at Gordon Ramsay’s North London pub, The York & Albany.

Nestled in a space behind the Regent’s Park boozer, the Hunting Cabin is a breath of fresh air on the pop-up scene. It’s secret but not pompous and you can’t book, meaning everyone who visits the pub has the opportunity to check out the cabin, providing there’s enough space on the night.

The ski style chalet has been purpose built by Ramsay’s team, and the attention to detail from the drinks menu to the quirky interior is impressive.

Inspired by the historic hunting grounds of neighbouring Regent’s Park, the cabin puts a quintessentially British spin on a classic ski cabin. As you step inside, you’re greeted by a welcoming Mr. Fox (albeit a taxidermy one sat mischievously by the door) to a cosy cabin complete with warm tartan rugs, your own private bar and personal barman.

The walls are adored with curious objects from a brass bugle, which we were assured works, to a vintage crossbow that thankfully doesn’t work. On the bar sits a spiky taxidermy hedgehog, and next to the seating area there’s a chest full of rugs for visitors to get cosy, as well as a choice of furry winter hats for everyone to wear should the cold come in.

On the menu is a choice of well chosen, thawing drinks and British snacks to warm the cockles. Tipples are served in mismatching glasses, which only adds to the authenticity and charm of the cabin. Or in copper tins topped with sprigs of heather and the pub’s homemade edible leather – delicious. Favourites were the ‘Kentucky Winter Julep’, which is simultaneously refreshing and warming, and the gentlemanly ‘Marylebone Julep’ infused with Woodford Reserve, chestnut and spiced syrup.

The food menu is equally as temping with hearty British snacks like Game Sausage Rolls, Venison Sausages and possibly the best Scotch Eggs you’ll ever taste made with black pudding and filled with a gloriously runny yolk.

The cabin sits around 8 people comfortably, but there’s an outdoor area too with warm heaters and homemade marshmallows waiting to be toasted.

It’s one of the few places in London we’d rather be than curled up at home, snug and warm on a January evening. We’re certain it won’t be long until The Hunting Cabin is London’s worst kept secret.

The pop up Hunting Cabin is open from 10th January – 24th February from 4pm – 11pm. The York & Albany, 127-129 Parkway, London, NW1 7PS Tel. 020 7388 3344
