In search of sumptuous champagne, scones and sandwiches within a stunning woodland setting, StyleNest headed to Jesmond Dene House Hotel near Newcastle for their delicious Champagne Afternoon Tea.
Stepping into Jesmond Dene House, we immediately soaked up the 19th century architecture and luxurious interior of the hotel. Walking through the entrance hall and restaurant, the panelled walls and original features are both enchanting and eye-catching. A beautiful place to while away a Saturday afternoon, the concierge led us through to the garden room. This part of the hotel looks out onto a lawn, courtyard and acres of woodland, almost feeling as if you are in fact outside. Impeccable service throughout, the afternoon tea menu was shown to us and it was swiftly decided we’d sample the Champagne option.
A glass of Pol Roger Rich NV Champagne soon arrived, billed as Champagne’s finest Demi-Sec. Toasting the tea with bubbles, we surveyed our surroundings and other guests taking time out to enjoy an indulgent afternoon. Jesmond Dene House has a warm, inviting environment which feels both relaxing and resplendent. Food followed the fizz; a delicious assortment of finger sandwiches, scones and an amazing selection of cakes, pastries and desserts. You can choose between a vast list of coffees or teas to accompany the food, ranging from Earl Grey, Jasmine Green and Himalayan Darjeeling to Medium Roast Columbian and High Roast Fairtrade Arabica Robusta. The sandwiches included Roast Beef, Rocket and Horseradish and Potted Salmon with Pickled Cucumber. Scones were served alongside clotted cream and homemade jam, of which you can pick fruit, cheese or plain. By far our favourite were the puddings, all presented like glistening jewels on the top of our tea stand. A veritable mix of treats, these were- Apple and Ginger Macaroons, Pear and Salted Caramel Crumble, White and Dark Chocolate Praline Truffle and Strawberry Gateau. It has to be said, Jesmond Dene House never fails to spoil with decadent food delights and a fantastic welcome.
Christmas just around the corner, festive afternoon teas are soon to be on the menu. Enjoy a Champagne Afternoon Tea in the hotel’s Great Hall, with seasonal music playing on the piano and saxophone from Graham Brown of The Paul James Band.
