Fancy Crab

The Crab isn’t the only thing that’s fancy round here…

Situated on the vibrant Wigmore Street in Marylebone in the country’s capital, Fancy Crab is placed amongst a number of quirky restaurants and bars each offering their own take on the latest dining trends.

On arrival I was greeted some of the best décor around, that truly dedicates itself to the name. Amazing artwork placed on the walls (think Mona Lisa holding a King Crab) and chandeliers made from fishing nets. That’s not to mention the open kitchen that prides itself on the display of freshly caught crabs and seafood. So I was sold on the aesthetics, but what about everything else?

It’s clear here that all of the staff are dedicated to ensuring you have the best possible experience and managers are often seen engaging with diners to ensure everything is just as they wanted. Our waiter, Emmanuel, was no different. As crab newbies, he kindly offered us a helping hand when it came to what to order, explaining how the taste differs from different parts of the crab. He was also super clued-up on the catching process and really made our dining experience something truly remarkable. After much chatting about the claws and shoulders of the crab, it was time to eat.

We opted for the Edamame Beans in Firecracker sauce (which by the way, were some of the best I’ve ever tasted) and the Langoustines, which were cooked in a delicious chilli sauce.

For the main it had to be the highly recommended Red King Crab that was baked over charcoal with butter and thyme served with hollandaise, triple cooked fries & dressed green salad. This food was absolutely sensational and presented beautifully. What’s great about this is there is no rolling your sleeves up, deshelling and getting messy with the crab; it’s all done for you. The shell is purely there for decorative purposes, which for me was a huge bonus.

To finish, Emmanuel promised us that the Chocolate Fondant with salted caramel ice-cream was “the way to our hearts” and he was right! What’s not to love about a gooey-chocolatey pud?

Without a doubt I would highly recommend this restaurant to any of those who are looking for a luxury dining experience with a bit of personality. Don’t worry if you’re not a seafood lover, the menu also offers some steak and chicken dishes; both of which looked super tasty! This restaurant is definitely a great addition to this lively area of town and one that will definitely impress fellow foodies.
