Want to have fantasies about wine? Something bold, deep, and dark? Sagrantino di Montefalco is the wine for all your dreams. Made purely from the Sagrantino grape, its tannins cannot be compared to any other wine. With unique taste, warmth, and depth of flavour, it has earned a double certification of the Italian wine category: DOC and DOCG. It already sounds interesting, doesn’t it!

The origin of The Red Love

Originating from the town of Umbria, Sagrantino is one of the boldest grapes out there. Umbria is not a seaside town, nor does it have any connection with any other country. It is in the middle of Italy. Hence the texture of the clay in the soil. It gives the perfect base for Sagrantino grapes to grow. Though it grows in a small portion compared to other grapes in the region, the wine it produces is like no other. Sagrantino di Montefalco wine has a deeper tone, colour, and tannins to its flavour than any other wine. The grape’s dry nature and strong taste were great to blend with other grapes and make a unique wine flavour. But Sagrantino grapes were never used before to craft an entire bottle of wine.

The process the wine goes through

The process that Sagrantino di Montefalco wines go through is extremely time-consuming. And why wouldn’t it be? Decant it as long as you want, and it still holds up the same taste. It is a wine to keep hidden in the cellar collection for some time, some ten years after getting it from the winery. Yes! It takes a whole 37 months to be ready for the market, 12 of which are in an oak barrel. Producers call Sagrantino the grape that needs to be tamed for its tannins and rich flavour. So the wine is not for just about anyone. To be precise, it is pretty hard for wine enthusiasts who are into lighter wines.

Not a drink, but an experience!

It is a wine that has a personality of its own. Personality here means the texture, the aroma, the boldness it holds. It is like no other wine in the universe. The longer you age it, the better it gets. It is that type of wine that you safely keep for another generation to come. And the compliments you will get will be legendary. It can only be categorised as a legendary flavoured wine.

The taste, pairing, timing

The taste? Smokey, mixed with blackberry, mushroom, cherry, and holy earth all combined. Sagrantino di Montefalco leaves a touch of its beastliness on your teeth. And you will love it. It is the perfect pair on a bonfire on an autumn evening, but perhaps, not suitable for a warm summer day. While most of the wines are loved for their easy-to-drink nature, Sagrantino di Montefalco wine is one of those kinds that require you to breathe and drink slowly. A rarity among the ocean of wines.
