Nowadays, the gothic style is quite noticeable in modern culture. It is present not only in architecture, interior design but also in the fashion world. Even with this, most people have a very vague idea of what it is.

Gothic clothing has an androgynous style with strong influences from the Middle Ages, gothic style and punk music. It’s very distinctive, offering many different options, characterised by dark, mysterious pieces.

At the same time, the gothic influence in modern fashion grows exponentially and absorbs modern fashion trends and influences them.

In the article, we’ll dive into some insightful tips to know how to dress in accordance with your goth type.

Steampunk

Steampunk is a style based on how people during the Victorian era in the 19th century thought that the future would look like in terms of fashion.

Here you will find steampunk clothes with a sci-fi twist such as the high steampunk hats with brass details and sturdy glasses, Victorian dresses in steampunk style and imitation leather with details in brass and copper.

Steampunk clothes are perfect for a masquerade party or simply as a fashion statement for those who want to dress up and dream away to another era.

If you want to try out this type of style, clothing pieces such as corsages, crinolines, top hats, suede and leather pants and jackets, belts with large rivets, retro glasses, long gloves are all traditional steampunk options. This goth type is all about the accessories – the more the merrier.

Victorian Gothic

Victorian gothic style is one of the ancient gothic variants and the Victorian style or its individual elements occupy one of the most important goth fashion styles.

If you want to portray this style, start off by wearing several layers and the basics. The most standard clothing pieces for women are bustle skirts, the renowned ruffled blouses, lace gloves, top hats and parasols.

On the other hand, a typical outfit for men usually entails frock coats, waistcoats and frilled shirts. Imagine going to a ballroom dance, but the ensemble should be all-black. Victorian goth wishes to emulate high society, as jewels or chokers that are gem-encrusted are worn, as well as skeleton-shaped lockets.

Cyber Goth

Cyber goth is the exact opposite of some other gothic styles, which focus on the past. Cyber entails looking at the future, where progressive fashion, chunky shoes and boots, wild hair extensions, cybernetics are the way forward. It can be described as today’s goths of the future.

In terms of cybergoth clothing, it can be almost anything latex, PVC or Lycra. The colors are usually a mixture of neon colors and white and/or black, and the colors contrast well. Neon-colored fishnets worn over regular black tights are popular with women, and they look cool.

PVC chokers and bracelets with colored nails are popular and ones that glow in the dark are even better. Try to find a decent PVC gas mask and cyber goggles, as they seem to be popular accessories.

Geek Goth

When you come to think about it, there’s an inner geek in every fashion style and this goes for goth style too. The distinct feature in the clothing of a geek goth is that their love of fashion is not as great as those who wear other types of goth.

Their typical attire consists of black jeans, black boots, and a simple black-colored graphic tee, which can be customized with DTF printing (direct to film). There are a variety of t-shirts available with sci-fi references, band logos, and slogans.

They go for the black aesthetic but they might have their hair dyed in unnatural colors. In terms of accessories, studded belts play the main role.

Corp Goth

It becomes a little tricky when you enter the corporate world and still want to keep the goth style, but you can still have the best of both worlds. Corp goth fashion has emerged as a result of this need and the most basic rule when it comes to this type of goth is to dress all black from head to toe.

The staple pieces are the black blazes, tights, velvet suits, and pinstripe pencil skirts. It all looks stylish and creative when adding some silk, velvet, and lace to the entire ensemble.

Final Thoughts

In general, all goth types are unique and original. These styles are mostly chosen and worn by flamboyant personalities who like to challenge society.

Not every person is brave enough to pull off goth fashion. If you like this style but are not ready to dive into it, you can start by adding a little accent to your regular wardrobe, for example by putting on a specific tee, a gothic ring, necklace or earrings.
