Titanic Spa, Huddersfield

Titanic SpaStyleNest recently headed to the Titanic Spa, in search of some seasonal luxury and much needed respite from the wintery weather.

The UK’s first eco spa, Titanic Spa is situated in Linthwaite just off the Pennines in West Yorkshire and it truly feels like a rural retreat. Originally a textile mill launched in 1911, the spa got its name as it was built the same year as the titanic set sail. Driving up to the spa, the building is grand and impressive, a sign of the sumptuous interior which awaits you.

After check-in we were given a guided tour of the spa, soaking up unique original features such as exposed internal brickwork. Taking in the gym, treatment rooms, Titanic Heat and Ice Experience, Relaxation Lounge, swimming pool plus Hydrozone and the Mud Chamber, our 24 hours of spa indulgence was just beginning.

Following this initial exploration, our first stop was the Titanic Spa Bistro, a relaxed dining experience offering fresh local produce, a wine list, candlelit dinner, hot and cold drinks throughout the day and afternoon tea should you desire. Tucking into lunch, I chose the flatbread with shredded duck option, a melt in the mouth meal. Although we dined in full clothing having recently arrived, guests are free to eat or drink at the bistro in their robes. Comfort is key to the experience, and that is all part of the Titanic Spa’s indulgent charm.

Next we were shown to our deluxe serviced apartment, a lift journey away from the spa. The spa owns 30 of these apartments which are actually housed in a residential block, but spa guests are given a separate lift to use. All robed and set to go, we set off down to the spa, towards the Titanic Heat and Ice Experience. Advised to work our way through the rooms from hot to cold, highlights included the Crystal Steam Room, Herbal Infusion Room, Aromatherapy Room, Sauna Cabin and Foot Baths. Not to mention the plunge pool, which I’m proud to say we apprehensively sampled, and was as thoroughly invigorating as suggested.

Heading to the pool and attached Hydrozone, we had a dip in the water and took in the ambient lighting and calm tranquillity the spa has to offer. After lounging by the pool for a little while it was time for our treatments, which had been chosen prior to our visit. Plumping for the Decleor Aromassage, this 55 minute session was soothing, relaxing and pure bliss. Decleor essential oils were used, and a consultation beforehand addressed any targeted areas to focus on. A personal highlight was the warming element of a hot water bottle. Post massage, our next destination was to be the Relaxation Lounge, a serene and quiet place of sanctuary. Other guests read, slept or took in the surroundings as we made the most of the bean bag relaxation area with roaring fire. Personally I could have spent a few hours snoozing in this still and blissful haven.

Dinner in the evening comprised a 2 course meal, for which I chose a delicious goat’s cheese, honey and pine nut starter followed by sea bass and vegetables. In need of an early night to maximise the relaxing qualities of the spa, we headed back to base straight after dinner, although spa facilities are open late.

Breakfast the next morning was a continental basket of goodies in our apartment, perfectly rounding off the laid-back luxury of our trip to Titanic Spa.
