Therapeutic Pregnancy Massage at the Aveda Institute, Covent Garden

Aveda Pregnancy Massage TreatmentTake the weight off your feet and relieve those stresses and strains with a bespoke pregnancy massage treatment especially for mums-to-be.

As any expectant mother knows all too well, pregnancy can take its toll on the body and a specialist massage is just the thing to relieve the back and shoulder pain caused by that extra bump. Not only that but pregnancy massages are a great way to relieve the stress and strain that your joints are subjected to throughout your pregnancy.

Within the sublime surroundings of the Eastern-influenced Spa at the Aveda Institute, is a true oasis of calm where pregnant ladies can enjoy the wonderfully soothing properties of a tailored massage designed entirely around the three trimesters. After completing a quick health questionnaire, we was taken through to the stylish room by the Spa’s resident pregnancy massage therapist. The treatment began with a luxurious foot soak and scrub designed to encourage circulation and promote the beginning of deep relaxation.

Our therapist then moved us over to the treatment bed that featured a supportive pillow which allows you to lie comfortably on your side whilst still supporting your bump from underneath. It also takes all the pressure away from the lumbar area of your spine, allowing you to fully relax and get the most out of the treatment.

The massages started on the back, focusing on the shoulders and lower back, the two areas that take the majority of the strain due to the extra weight of the baby. The therapist then moved onto our legs and arms, using a combination of both firm and more gentle pressure depending on the level of tension she encountered. It was as if she had lead us into a heavenly slumber as we found ourselves drifting into a semi-conscious feeling of absolute heaven.

Over the course of the 60minute treatment we could literally feel the stiffness melt away and at all times felt completely comfortable in the hands of a masseuse that understands that a pregnant body requires different attention to that of someone who isn’t. The last few minutes of the treatment were dedicated to a gentle yet effective scalp massage – leaving us feeling refreshed and utterly pampered.

The results speak for themselves, as our spine was left feeling longer, our postural stoop had instantly improved and for the first time in months, those pesky hormones were kept nicely subdued as we floated all the way home. We’d recommend any expectant mother to get themselves down to the Aveda Institute and indulge.
