For many women, a face peel conjures up images of red, raw skin flaking off in huge chunks, a la Channel 4s “10 Years Younger”. Unsurprisingly, for many, the process just wasn’t worth the results, but thankfully times have changed.
The Dr Tatiana clinic in London is well known for its cutting edge, results driven treatments and the new PRX-T33 peel sounds more new age than most! Although technically a ‘peel’, PRX-T33 doesn’t behave like a peel. Yes, you get all the anti-ageing, collagen producing and pigment fighting benefits of a peel, but due to the buffered delivery system, you don’t experience any of the yucky soreness and peeling like original peels!
Combining the regular Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) you would expect to find in an aesthetic peel, with Hydrogen Peroxide and Kojic Acid -all ingredients penetrate the skin quickly without causing any inflammation or irritation, they help to stimulate fibroblasts and growth factors (essential for elasticity and firm skin) whilst reducing pigmentation, scarring and wrinkles. And what’s more, it can be used with great effect, on the body too to reduce stretch marks, scarring or melasma!
For me, one of the most game-changing aspects of this peel is that you can do it at any time of the year, as opposed to less sunny times of year. It is often as the warmer months arrive and we wear lighter makeup and spend more time outside, that we become more aware of the condition of our skin, particularly pigmentation damage. So, with the PRX-T33 peel, we don’t have to wait any length of time to do something about it!
I usually use a 1% retinol on my skin, so was advised to stop using it 1 week prior to treatment (and for 1 week after) as it might aggravate my skin during the process. Otherwise everything is very straight forward – the skin is thoroughly cleansed, barrier cream is applied around the eyes, lips and corners of nose (where the skin is thinner) and then the peel is applied in layers. I’m asked throughout the treatment, what my pain/uncomfortable level is at; 1 being little to no discomfort, 10 being omg get this off my face! I can happily say that my discomfort only reached level 3 at a push! It was totally bearable and as soon as the peel is neutralised during removal, there is absolutely no discomfort at all.
Immediately after the treatment my skin was glowing, my pores were less noticeable and there was no irritation at all, so far so happy! After 3 days, I did have very, very minimal peeling – just a tiny bit of flaking around my chin and on my nose-to-mouth lines (both areas that really needed the peel!) all could be hidden easily with a heavy-duty moisturiser and a bit of bb cream! And then came the glow…. My skin looks dewier and healthier than it has done in a long time! My makeup is going on flawlessly and lasting better throughout the day too! Generally speaking, a course of 3-6 treatments is recommended to get the best results (totally expected when it comes to scarring and pigmentation) but I think it also works perfectly as a ‘one-off booster’!
The real testament to this treatment is the results you can gain on the body, more specifically, on old scars or stretch marks; I asked for some peel to be applied to my stomach, on my 8-year-old pregnancy stretch marks, and the difference in just one treatment was quite astounding – stretch marks I’ve had for that length of time, literally reduced in visibility, by over half in just 10 minutes!!! Happy shock!
I am certain we will see these types replacing previous peels almost entirely in years to come, so, it no surprise that Dr Tatiana, a pioneer in her field, is leading the way – and if her own (FLAWLESS) skin is anything to go by, you are in very safe hands!
