And suddenly, the focus on your appearance has become a thing…..
As a Make Up Artist of many years – I have never not seen a beautiful bride (especially if I worked on them! Ha!) the adrenaline and joy of the occasion creates a softening of the face and a glow in the cheeks – hence ‘the blushing bride’. But, let’s be honest, with pictures and videos to last a lifetime, it’s no wonder we all want to look our absolute best on our big day.
And I’m here to tell you, the getting ready schedule starts long before the wedding day itself. Whether it’s a short or long engagement, you’re ultra-organised or you’re a last-minute kinda bride, there is a beauty plan to suit all; and let’s not forget; good skincare is a priority over good makeup, Every. Single. Time.
I promise you will look gorgeous on your wedding day whatever your skin prep has entailed, but sometimes it’s just nice to go that little bit further, put yourself first, and go for it with the guilt-free beautifying! #hitched
The Inaugural Facial by Dr Stefanie Williams, £625 for 90 minutes, only available at The Eudelo Skin Experience Centre in Chelsea
This one is for the bride whose engagement has jolted them into starting a proper skincare routine for the first time in their life. For healthy, glowing skin, you need to play the long game; this skin is not achieved overnight, it stems from regular and daily care and routine. Anything you do in addition to this will ALWAYS have a better result, whether that be the ‘Natural Bridal Makeup look’ we all love or a first foray into Botox injections – healthy skin must come first.
Dermatologist Dr Stefanie Williams has recently added a new self-designed facial to her signature treatment list at the Eudelo clinic, with the target being ‘fit skin’. Aptly named the Inaugural Facial, this treatment takes your skincare routine back to the start, to lay some healthy skin foundations, while sneaking in some non-invasive proven technology at the same time.
After a thorough consultation, this 90-minute treatment starts with a deep pore cleanse and wet-dermabrasion (wet is much kinder to the skin) followed by a skin peel to further clear the skin and remove dead cells – without leaving you red or sore-looking. All blackheads and or whiteheads are then expertly (and quite painlessly) removed – I know many people are of the belief that you shouldn’t ‘squeeze’ spots, but let me tell you, as a skincare specialist of over 20 years, you should! It just needs to be done in the right way, with the right prep and the right care – trust me, those pores will thank you for it, cos they ain’t gonna clear themselves. It can be a forgotten skill among aestheticians, but my therapist, Zsofia cleared my skin seamlessly in minutes.
You then have some treatment mask mapping, where different masks are applied to different parts of the face according to what is best needed where, whilst having a gentle lymphatic drainage massage to de-puff and de-toxify – an essential step in assisting skin health. This is all followed by LED light therapy to stimulate collagen and kill off bacteria before the pièce de resistance; cryostimulation, which uses the thermal shock of very cold temperature to stimulate fibroblasts and improve oxygen and nutrient supply to the skin – you also feel (albeit temporary) tight and lifted afterward too.
The entire treatment is led by your aesthetician and what your skin needs at that moment, so the treatment will likely alter on each visit as your skin needs change and adapt to their new healthy state; plan a course and enjoy the ride to your best skin.
Yes, Morpheus8 is hailed for its anti-ageing magic, but Morpheus is not a 1 trick pony. Morpheus8 (made famous by those Judy Murray before and after pictures – and if you haven’t seen them, please Google) uses RF (Radio Frequency) micro-needling to rejuvenate the skin and encourage it to perform like it does in very young skin – because if it acts young, it looks young, i.e plump, glowy and toned.
Morpheus8 has built up quite the reputation in recent years, and for good reason; it is one of the most powerful treatments for skin tightening and lifting there is. Working deep within the skin tissues, Morpheus8 remodels, rejuvenates, and rewinds the clock on fine lines, wrinkles, and slackened skin. Yes, please.
I had my Morpheus treatment at the Royally approved Sarah Chapman clinic (it’s rumoured Sarah is the practitioner of choice for the women of our Royal Family), where they somehow manage to make a very clinical treatment feel like a serious pamper session. Cocooned in luxury waffle blankets, on the most comfortable beauty bed, you could almost chillout. Almost. Morpheus8 is an intense treatment, and with that comes a bit of an ouch factor over certain areas (eyes and jawline for me) but nothing that would stop me from going back for further treatments – far from it. Despite a warning of possible micro-crusting, the days after the treatment, I had no redness or soreness, and no flaking or sensitivity at all – this is rare for such a powerful treatment. I did come away with a few small and coverable bruises – not a particularly common side effect, and I am a bit of a bruiser, but I’d say definitely time your sessions carefully just in case.
Results start to present themselves after 1-2 weeks and continue to improve over the next 3-6 months. I’d recommend 3 sessions around 6 weeks apart, with the last treatment being at least 2 months before the big day.
Now, if your wedding day is looming and you feel like you should’ve started your skin prep months ago, fear not – I’ve got some magic for you.
The Secret Duo by Dr Tatiana, gave me the most noticeable difference I’ve ever experienced in my skin in the shortest amount of time (and I’ve tried a lot of treatments). To be totally honest, I really wasn’t expecting the results we achieved; not because I didn’t believe in the treatment – Dr Tatiana and partner Dr Rishi are renowned for their rigorous testing and research into a treatment before it is deemed worthy enough to enter their clinic – but more because, as a beauty writer, my job is to ‘try’ a treatment, to gage it’s abilities and feedback the sensation, experience and downtime of each treatment, but not to fulfil the full quota of recommended sessions to achieve the full results – we simply don’t have enough face to experience everything fully! But this treatment is special, really special.
After a thorough numbing of the skin, RF needling is performed across the face (you can also treat the neck) delivering heat to the deeper layers of the skin for regeneration and collagen stimulation. Next, the erbium glass laser targets fine lines, pigmentation, large pores, crepey skin, scarring.…. and literally lives up to its name by giving you a glass-like finish to the skin.
I didn’t find it uncomfortable at all; my therapist Liz exudes calmness, and she was an expert in numbing – a perfect combination for any high-tech treatment! That said, I do have a high pain threshold, so if you are particularly sensitive, you may find the treatment uncomfortable but absolutely bearable. Immediately after the treatment I was mildly red, and the day after my skin started to feel a bit like sandpaper to the touch, but not in the least bit sore, and you couldn’t tell to look at it (unless you apply make-up which, for me, definitely made the texture appear more noticeable). The roughness lasted a few days, and by the end of the week my skin felt back to normal. Normal but GLOWING! The glow and improvement continued day by day, and 1 month after the treatment, I couldn’t get over how one 40-minute treatment could make such an incredible difference.
I’d recommend having your first Secret Duo Treatment 6 months before the big day, to see how your skin responds, then, ideally, have another one 4 months before, and a final one 2 months before; you’ll be glowing so hard, your guests will see you skin walking down the aisle before they see you!
For acne sufferers, I also want to add that for the first time in the UK, and at the Dr Tatiana Clinic, AviClear, the revolutionary first FDA approved laser is now available to treat mild. Moderate and severe acne, and to create long-term acne clearance. Clinical studies found 30% acne clearance in 3 months 60% clearance in 6 months and 90% clearance in 9 months.
AviClear can be used on all skin types and colours. It is the first technology to rival what could previously only be achieved prescription medicines or antibiotics for chronic acne, but the results appear to be longer-lasting. I haven’t tried this one personally, but AviClear is such ground-breaking technology for a skin condition which people suffer with mentally as well as physically – I can only imagine the stress of the condition is heightened for a bride-to-be, so it had to included. Please reach out to the Dr Tatiana clinic for more info. Prices start from £3500 for a course of 3 sessions (3 sessions being the maximum sessions needed).
You must forgive me on this one as I’ve written about it before, but I can’t promise I won’t write about it again…. I first had a Byonik Facial in 2017 when an ill-advised hair removal treatment had left me with folliculitis. My skin was in chaos, and long story short, 2 Byonik treatments later, my skin was cured completely. It was the first pain-free laser I’d ever experienced, and it is still one of my favourites.
Byonik Laser works with and adapts to your pulse throughout the treatment (you wear a pulse oximeter on your finger) releasing energy into the skin with every pulse. The treatment protects our telomeres (you may have heard about telomeres shortening with age, and causing cell death – or maybe you haven’t, don’t look it up, it’s depressing reading….) and by protecting the telomeres, you preserve them and therefore prolong the health of the cells. And of course, the healthier the cells are, the healthier the skin will be.
So it’s no surprise that Byonik treats practically all skin concerns, including congestion, sensitivity, dullness, dehydration and also reactive skin; this is why I’ve put Byonik in the 3-6 month pre-wedding bracket; the stress and time constraints of planning a wedding (not to mention the sometimes friend or family politics taking its emotional toll) can play havoc on your skin, and the LAST thing you should do or apply to your skin (yes, I’m shouting), is anything highly stimulating – it is a recipe for disaster. You need a powerful calm.
I had my Byonik with the lovely Mrs Ritchie – she is a powerful calm in herself, and gives that feeling of going back home to be cared for by a loved one. Cosy, relaxed and in safe hands, all be it in one of the trendiest beauty spaces London has to offer.
My recommendation; have a Byonik treatment. Trust me.
