Suzy Reading, Neom Psychology Expert, talks us through her three main top tips for de-stressing.

  1. SELF TALK EXERCISE. We’re all familiar with the saying “you can’t love someone else until you’ve learnt to love yourself”… Just how do we learn to do it? Here is a way: only talk to yourself as you would your best friend:
  • Observe the way you talk to yourself (your inner voice and what you vocalise)
  • When you notice yourself doing anything but talking to yourself as you would your best friend, be gentle, smile, maybe have a laugh, appreciate just how hard this task can be, consciously say “I’m not doing that to myself anymore” and rephrase what you’ve said. Don’t let failure here be yet another thing you berate yourself over
  1. BEFORE BED TRY THE THREE BLESSINGS. Instead of thinking about all the things you haven’t got done that day, and what needs doing tomorrow, just stop and write down three good things that happened that day and importantly why they happened.
  2. IN TIMES OF STRESS FIND SOME PEACE OF MIND.
  • P is for PAUSE. Simply be aware that you are facing something difficult or challenging and pause.
  • E is for EXHALE. Take a long, smooth exhalation and then take a long, smooth inhalation. Keep doing this for as long as you need to.
  • A is for ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, ACCEPT and ALLOW. Acknowledge this moment or experience for what it is. Accept your reaction to this experience and allow those feelings, thoughts and physical sensations to be there.
  • C is for CHOOSE. When you feel ready, contemplate how you are going to respond.
  • E is for ENGAGE. Bring your attention back to the situation, re-engage and take your chosen course of action.
