1960s Eye Makeup Top Tips with Benefit

Liner TipsThis beauty season, 1960s eye makeup is big news. We’ve teamed up with Benefit to bring you their top tips for achieving the 60s trend.

From feline flicks to pale pastel shadow and larger than life lashes, backstage at SS15 catwalk shows makeup teams were working on wowing the audience with 60s detail. The trend was seen across several shows, including Orla Kiely, Marchesa and Christopher Kane; all tapping into pale pastels offset against winged liquid liner.

Benefit ‘s They’re Real! Push-Up Liner, They’re Real! Mascara and Longwear Powder are your essential makeup bag buys when waving a retro makeup look magic wand. Longwearing and created with expert efficiency, we talked to Benefit to bring us their SS15 know-how.

Lisa Potter Dixon, Benefit’s Head Makeup and Trend Artist talks us through the 60s trend and how to get the look at home.

  • To create this iconic look start by applying a pale shadow, such as Benefit Longwear Powder Shadow in Milk It! (£15.50), all over the lid.
  • Next, take a black shadow and using a liner brush draw a line into the socket of your eye. Blend slightly, but ensure the line is clear.
  • Define the eye further with a gel liner along the lash line. Benefit’s They’re Real Push-up Liner (£18.50) is perfect for this as it has a matte black finish.
  • Don’t be tempted to create a classic flick, the liner should finish where the eye ends.
  • Now for the lashes! The bigger the better. Firstly, add lashings of jet black mascara. I love Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara (£19.50) as it lengthens, curls and volumises the lashes.
  • Then apply full looking strip lashes along the upper lash line. Once dry, go back over your gel liner again for a sharp finish.
