Curly hair can be a blessing and a curse. Big hair, don’t care isn’t exactly accurate! Those with curls know it actually takes a mountain of products and various tricks to get it right. As it isn’t exactly wash-and-wear, you need to get your regimen on point to tackle all those special curly-girl issues, like frizz, puffiness, and mega tangles.
When it behaves, nothing’s better than having a head full of perfect ringlets or waves that cascade over your shoulders. As effortless as they may look, the reality is that our curls can only be as good as the products we use on them. I’m always on the look-out for new products and was delighted when Only Curls asked if I would like to try their collection.
The brand’s mission is to encourage curly haired girls of all textures to ditch the chemicals, forget the straighteners and start loving their natural curls. They understand that curly hair is fragile and needs extra care and all of the styling products are packed with nourishing ingredients that ultimately penetrate and hydrate the hair. There are no nasties to be found- being free from sulphates, parabens, mineral oil and paraffin. Plus they aren’t tested on animals.
The first thing I loved is the packaging, very feminine and a great addition to the aesthetic of the bathroom shelf! Secondly the scent of a product is important to me and the collection offer’s a sweet, delicate aroma, with nothing too overpowering. I followed the steps that they suggested on their website (which is great for video tutorials too) and started with the All Curl Cleanser. Containing Avocado and Kukui Oils it naturally moisturises the hair and scalp- it left my hair feeling super soft and the kind formula is good at not stripping the hair of its natural oils. I followed with the All Curl Conditioner which was super hydrating- mainly due to the abundance of oils- Jojoba, Coconut, Avocado, Kukui, Argan and Macadamia.
Up next were the styling products- both of which are very lightweight. The hydrating curl creme’s aim is to smooth curls and get rid of the frizz. It left my hair feeling very soft and not greasy or heavy- it definitely aided my curls and kept them moisturised. The Enhancing Curl Gel defines your curls and holds them in shape whilst adding some shine. Again this never felt greasy or heavy, just left my hair bouncy and not weighed down or crunchy. Overall these products were great and I received lots of compliments on my locks! The website also offers some key accessories when it comes to caring for your tresses- from towels and silk pillowcases and turbans to silk scrunchies.
