You’re Making Me Blush

I love a bit of blusher. But the corally tones I’ve been wearing over the summer don’t really work now as the light is changing to those harsh, unforgiving winter rays, from the flattering yellower tones of summer. So it’s time to dig out something more natural…

I am currently obsessed with the new generation of blushers that aim to – wait for it – make it look as though you are actually blushing. And you can keep all that nonsense about us women trying to look as though we’re having an orgasm to keep men happy. I’d rather look like I’d been for a nice walk, thanks. Here are my favourite rosy-cheekers for the chilly months to come.

Bourjois BlusherFirst up is an absolute gem from Bourjois that came out just last month: Blush Exclusif (£7.99). You might open it and think, you’re having a laugh – but give it a try, as it blends to the most natural, youthful pop of ‘personalised’ cheek colour I have come across in a while.

Stila Custom Color BlushStila’s Custom Color Blush (£13) comes in three shades but works along the same principles, adjusting to suit your own colouring. This time it’s apparently something to do with your skin’s pH, but I’m not really that bothered how it works, more that the ‘Pink’ makes me look like someone just told me I have toilet roll stuck to my shoe. In a good way.

Origins It's enough to make you blushAlso creamy, but this time in a cute little tube, is Origins Pinch Your Cheeks (£13.50), which was one of the original uber-natural cheek boosters. I prefer ‘Raspberry’, which to me just says a wander on the beach in a cold wind. Easy to apply and doesn’t shift until you want it to.

Clarins Illuminating Cheek ColourNow for a powder. Clarins have nailed it with their Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour (£26), which gives you a four-part palette of different shades and finishes so you can tailor your blush to the look that you want. I like Miami Pink, which sounds summery but gives a perfect pink perk-up to balance your autumn lip colour.

Laura Geller Baked ImPRESSions BlushFinally, another powder, this time from Laura Geller – Baked ImPRESSions Blush (£22), a multi-tasker that you can use wet for more of a ‘stain’, or dry for a subtle flush of healthy colour. It’s even infused with grapeseed and Omega 6 oils to protect those cheeks from the winter elements.
