Let’s get it off

Just so you know, I’m not planning on getting involved in Movember this year. But, after you pass that milestone birthday (you know the one), you might notice the odd hair around your top lip that’s not as fine or as light as you might like. Know what I mean?

Well, not one to shirk when it comes to a beauty issue, I’ve been investigating what is the very best way to get rid of this annoyance. And I have my top five solutions just for you. Movember will be just November for you and I.

First up is Veet, the Immac of old. I tried the Face Hair Removal Kit (£5.50). Hair removal creams dissolve hair proteins, leaving smooth rounded hairs just below the skin that take longer to become exposed and feel softer when they do. This beats plucking individual hairs and the results last longer. I liked the Finishing Cream in the kit too. Nice job.

My purse-friendly choice is SweetEase Face Waxing Kit (£3.99), available in store at Superdrug and online from next week. This is no messing stuff – a handy card pouch with 16 strips (vanilla scented) and some wipes for afterwards. It’s not that pleasant but it works and it’s super quick.

Sweetease

I’ve also road-tested something electrical – the Braun Epilator which also has a cleansing brush attachment and comes in a natty pouch with an illuminated mirror (£89). This is not cheap, and nor is it painless, but it works an absolute treat. You can also use it around your eyebrows (which is less painful than your top lip). Regrowth is slow so you really only need to use once a month.

If you’d rather hang onto your ‘tache, just make it a bit lighter, cult classic Jolen Creme Bleach (£10.50) is hard to beat. It lightens the hair, but not to some weird white colour, just to blonde, and doesn’t bleach the skin underneath. Fairly simple, just a case of mixing a powder and a cream, and again, it lasts for a few weeks.

Finally, a godsend for me and my constant facial hair scrutiny is Shavata 15x Mag Mirror (£12.95). You can stick it on any surface where the light is good thanks to the suction pads on the back and then tweeze (with Shavata Precision Tweezers, £20.50), pluck and fiddle to your heart’s content.
