You might already be using a facial oil but I am going to wax lyrical about them anyway. For the uninitiated, try not to think of them as something greasy or slimy. The new breed of facial oils are light, non-oily oils and you only need a few drops to deliver powerful benefits to your skin.
What else? There’s one for every skincare concern, they are perfect for use at night, and you can use them under your moisturiser or alone. Some have aromatherapeutic benefits that can calm or revive you as you massage them in, and they’re for all skin types – just choose one that suits your needs best. Sold? You should be by now… Here are my favourite five.
Bloom & Glow (£22.55) is the latest oil from the wonderful Angela Langford. This woman has yet to make a single product I do not love. I pick this if my skin is feeling cross and hormonal. Put it on at night and you will wake up glowing, as the name suggests.
ILA Face Oil for Glowing Radiance (£68) is another instant booster. It sinks in like silk, leaving a wonderful posh rose smell under your nose as you go to sleep. Use under your night cream if you’re feeling dehydrated.
Next up is Nude ProGenius Treatment Oil (£58). This is my go-to when I’m feeling a bit drawn and in need of plumping up. It contains Omegas 3, 6, 7 and 9 and has a lovely foody rather than herbal smell to it. You need hardly any, and you can even add a drop of this to your foundation on lack-lustre days. I rub any spare round my cuticles, too.
If, heaven forbid, I ever catch the sun (unlikely in January I know), I massage in Pai BioRegenerate™ Rosehip Oil (£20) at night. It’s a rich amber colour from the carotenoids in the rosehip oil, which boost skin’s natural repair process. Perfect for dabbing on scars, old spots or stretch marks too.
And finally, my favourite oil when I am feeling a little dull is Aromatherapy Associates Revitalizing Face Oil (£39), which is designed for use after serum and before moisturiser – perfect if you like to layer your products and are fond of being told, “You look well”. Why thank you.
