Red Hair Care Tips

Dying for fiery red locks or a head of gorgeous copper hair? StyleNest’s top red hair care tips will point you in the right direction.

Only a few weeks ago at Paris Couture Fashion Week, designer Beatrice Demulder Ferrant made headline news as she sent all her models down the catwalk wearing red wigs, heralding the return of red as the must-have colour for Spring/Summer 2013.

If you’re thinking of embracing your inner red head or simply looking for a change, going red can be daunting. But shades of reds and coppers can be flattering on all skin types. We’ve enlisted the help of Head Colourist, Tasha Stevens at Jamie Stevens Hair to bring you the top tips on finding the perfect red for you.

Colour Tips

Vibrant Red

Vibrant reds look great on fair skins and make blue eyes pop. Channel Florence Welsh and add texture to flaming locks with a fringe or heavy layers.

Copper

Look to Mad Men screen siren Christian Hendricks for copper locks inspiration. Copper tones suit pale and darker skin tones and are perfect for revamping your look in an instant.

Brownish Reds

If your skin and eyes are darker, going red or a reddish brown can really warm up the complexion.  You don’t have to have an all-over colour but if you’re keen to dip into this trend, you can play with the ombre effect and go from dark rich red brown into pillar box red ends or reverse for a more extreme look.

Looking After Your Locks

Makeup

When going red, you need to factor in what you wear and how you do your make. Greens will naturally off set vibrant reds whilst coppers will look brighter against blues.

Maintaining Colour

Vibrant shades like red are more likely to fade more quickly so following your salon visit you must look after your hair at home. Make sure you use a good professional colour saving care duo, such as the Color Care Shampoo & Conditioner from the Matrix Biolage range, and pop back to the salon between main visits for a quick colour refresh.
