Hair Tip: How To Get Soft Waves

Cult beauty brand Aveda show StyleNest how to get soft waves, as seen on the catwalk at New York Fashion Week.

New York Fashion Week SS13 saw throngs of models showcase roughed-up, tough-girl texture on the catwalks. Top hairstylist, Didier Maliga created the looks at NY show Band of Outsiders using products from cult beauty brand, Aveda.

Aveda Soft Waves

Here, with a little help from Didier, StyleNest show you how to get the look of soft, undone waves with these easy top tips.

This look is versatile and sits just as well with an elegant evening gown as with grungy distressed denim and a rock chick leather biker. Sure to be one of the biggest hair trends of next season, be one step ahead of the crowd and wear it first.

Step 1: Hair

Using Aveda Pure Abundance Style Prep (£19.50 at aveda.co.uk), prep the hair by spritzing it roots to ends.

Step 2: Blowdry

Blowdry your hair away from your face using your fingers or a brush to remove any kinks or curls.

Step 3: Volume

Create a deep parting on the left side of your hair and using a double-barrel curling iron, wind sections of hair haphazardly around the iron in a figure-of-eight pattern. This will create volume.

Step 4: Rough It Up

Spray the hair all over with Aveda Air Control Hairspray (£18 at aveda.co.uk) and massage hair to rough it up.

Step 5: Fix

Pull back a section of hair on the right side and secure at the back of your head with a bobby pin halfway down your head. Move your hair around to hide the pins and let the front fall effortlessly over the right eye. To ensure it stays put, finish off with another blast of Air Control spray.

Aveda products are available online and at Aveda salons nationwide.
