As summer draws to a close it’s all too apparent just how unkind the warmer months have been to our hair. Whilst your spirits and your tan might benefit from sunny picnics in the park or swims in the sea, your hair certainly does not.

With these simple tips courtesy of hair guru, Nicky Clarke you can ensure your tresses look amazing all year round.

Wear your hair up. Wearing your hair up is kinder on your tresses in the cooler conditions, wind and rain that autumn and winter brings. It also makes a lovely change to wearing your hair down.

Wear a hat. To stop helmet head or hat hair, tie your hair in a top not and place the cap over that. When you shake down your hair after the journey, you will have bouncy high hair.

Lay off the colour. Give your hair a break from a colour session and instead ask  your colourist for a sheer glaze colour gloss. A vegetable colour that will enhance shine while giving your tresses a break from bleaching too.

Get a cut. Straight after the summer and your holidays book in for a cut. This does not necessarily have to be a re-style just a good trim and a tidy up. A good base with healthy hair will be a great start for the winter months and make it much easier to manage and style.

Add moisturiser. Buy a good hair mask. It’s important to use it each week throughout the winter months. This will help to put moisture that is lost through the week back into the hair and keep it looking at its best.

Blow-Dry. Try not to let your hair dry naturally every day. Although it is a preconceived idea that it is the best way to look after your hair it actually makes the hair dry out more easily and keeps the follicle open to the elements and pollution. Click here for blow-dry tips.

Take supplements: Sea kelp tablets are great for keeping hair and nails in good shape. They’re also great if you’re trying to grow your hair.

Get a treatment: For an intensive moisture treatment, book in for a protein treatment which is set under heat. Prices start from £22.50.
