The much beloved river-side dining institution Le Pont de la Tour has just launched its “Le Brunch chez Pont” menu, complete with sans fond (bottomless) Prosecco and charming views over the Thames and Tower Bridge.

Le Pont de la Tour recently underwent a full scale refurbishment, bringing this stalwart of French-dining in London back up to its deserved glory. Everyone knows Le Pont, introduced to it at some point by mum and dad for a summery family lunch, overlooking those gorgeous river views. I’ve certainly spent a fair few Saturday lunch times on the terrace, chin-wagging with friends over a bottle or two. Several of these unlimited bubbly brunches have popped up recently, and I have become rather fond of the concept of getting somewhat sloshed by 2pm. Combining this with the fact I hadn’t been to Le Pont since it’s refurb, had me quite looking forward to last Saturday’s trip.

The menu is laid out as two courses for fifteen pounds, three for twenty, and then unlimited Prosecco is an additional fifteen. The Prosecco was very drinkable indeed – a pleasant and unexpectedly common occurrence at these unlimited brunches – we’d have liked the option to add orange juice, though this was soon remedied by ordering a couple of glasses of freshly squeezed and performing a precarious pouring act.

We started off with Eggs Benedict and a Duck Confit dish. The duck was superb, somewhat like a duck-fishcake. Eggs Benedict was good too, though the muffin could have been toasted to soften it a little. This was followed by the Brunch Burger, and pancakes with berries. The burger was a fair effort, and the pancakes were delicious and refreshingly not in the American style, instead being something between an English pancake and a crepe.

The service was exactly what you want at weekend brunching. Warm and friendly, but attentive enough to keep that Prosecco glass full at all times. The refurbishment is a complete success, the restaurant now looking as smart and well dressed as some elegant Mayfair dining rooms. At just thirty pounds for two courses and unlimited fizz, it’s also great value. I would certainly return.
