Hand it over

Call me old fashioned but I aim for the powder room to be guest-friendly at all times, in case of an unexpected visitor. With a 6 year old boy, this is quite the challenge, but what I may lose in points in the toilet area (they have a terrible aim at that age) I hopefully make up for at the sink. Because I do like a nice hand wash.

Last month I noticed my hand washes were still quite wintery in style so I’ve been looking for some bright and breezy summery ones to perk up the bathroom and leave my hands soft and sniffable at the same time. Here are my top five.

First up is from Method. I love this brand, and their Sunset Beach collection has the most stylish packaging and a fresh, natural scent. It’s a limited edition collection and available exclusively at Tesco so do grab a hand wash (£2), or one of the cleaning products in the range.

From Heathcote & Ivory comes a new collection: Kaffe Fassett’s Achillea. The packaging design is gorgeous, and the scent, with notes of bergamot and oranges, is just as wonderful. I’ve got a bottle of hand wash and one of hand lotion (both £14) on my sink at the moment – they are huge so will thankfully be there for a while yet.

From Malin & Goetz is my favourite multi-tasker: Lime Hand Wash (£18), which can also be used as a body wash or bath foam. It boasts amino acid hydration technology, which means that not only does it look uber-cool on your basin – it keeps your backside soft too when you use it in the shower.

My purse-friendly choice this week is from treaclemoon. ‘My Coconut Island’ Gentle Handwash (£2.49) comes in a monster half litre pump dispenser and has an impressively posh-smelling, non-sickly coconut scent. As summery as the Bounty ads and looks all ‘Philosophy’ on your basin.

Finally, from Emma Bridgewater is Feels Like Home Hand Wash (£12). Apparently, this ‘captures the simple pleasure of a well-loved home: sheets blowing on the washing line, newly waxed floors and summer herbs hung up to dry.’ I can tick none of these boxes today, or on most days to be honest, but this lovely hand wash makes up for it.
