In with the new (cleanser)

Well, it’s freezing cold, and I don’t know about you but the last thing I feel like doing of an evening is standing at a sink splashing my face with cold water and getting my pyjama top all wet. It’s far from appealing.

And on top of that, foaming, rinse-off cleansers don’t really suit my skin at this time of year. The cold wind and central heating mean I’m after something a bit creamier and more nourishing. Thankfully, I’ve got some cracking gentle cleansers lined up that are perfect for the winter months.

First is a thing of beauty from Perricone that has been my post Christmas saviour: new Blue Plasma Cleansing Treatment (£35). A non-rinse dual cleansing treatment and makeup remover. Oh my giddy aunt, this really busts that makeup and grime. And no tap-running required. It’s like a gooey toner/micellar water and leaves skin feeling squeaky clean after just a couple of wipes with a cotton pad. Excellent.

Another wipe-off option is the purse-friendly Pomegranate Softening Cream Cleanser (£11) from The Body Shop. Approved by the wonderful Caroline Hirons, I had to try this, and it’s as gorgeous as I expected. Soft, makeup-melting and hydrating, my son is also fascinated by it as it has ‘Grenade’ written on the bottle (which I am guessing/hoping is French for pomegranate).

The Body Shop

Like the Body Shop cleanser, L’Occitane’s new Shea Cleansing Milk (£17) can be tissued or cotton-woolled off – or if you prefer, wiped away with a warm flannel (no splashing required). This one is my go-to if I’ve been out in the chilly winds all day and I feel the need for something calming and soothing. Lovely.

LOccitane

New brand alert: zk’in is from Australia and has a wonderful ‘honest beauty’ ethos. Their Softening Cream Cleanser (£15.95) is a non-lathering, soap and alcohol-free cleansing cream that uses unique ‘oil-to-milk’ technology, where oils are transformed to ‘milk’ on contact with water. So you do need a bit of a rinse with this, but a warm flannel is all that’s required and the result is silky, residue-free skin.

Renewing Cleansing Cream (£35) uses papaya enzyme to boost radiance, but as it’s super-hydrating there’s no tightness afterwards. Happy new year!
