Following the success of their skincare range, LUNA, Swedish brand Foreo has created the ISSA toothbrush, the world´s first electric toothbrush with silicone bristles.
Initially developed for clinical use, it is now available for everyone as a gentle alternative to the standard toothbrush, which can damage gums and tooth enamel with their stiff, nylon brushes. It is designed to be used just like a manual toothbrush, but channels high intensity pulsations through it´s unique, silicone brush head. These pulsations make it different to other electric toothbrushes, which use oscillations, and make ISSA gentler on teeth and gums. There are 8 levels of intensity, so you can choose how intense to make the pulsations, but all levels feel extremely gentle, which is exactly how brushing with ISSA should feel.
The silicone bristles are gentle on teeth, provide you with a soft gum massage, and help to prevent gum recession. The highest quality silicone is used, which is hypoallergenic, BPA and phthalate free, and more hygienic than a standard toothbrush. Standard toothbrush bristles can harbour bacteria, but the silicone used for ISSA is easy to clean and quick drying, and non porous to prevent bacteria build up. The natural properties of silicone also help to clean thoroughly and gently, as it sticks to any smooth surface, and generates a strong friction, which rubs away plaque and stains, rather than scratching them off, like a bristle toothbrush. And with it´s flexible brush head, the ISSA reaches all parts of the mouth.
The silicone also adds to the sleek, ergonomic design, it´s certainly the most stylish toothbrush we´ve ever seen, and we actually felt excited about using it and brushing our teeth! Foreo are hoping the design will have the same impact on children, with the release of their ISSA Mini, developed for children aged 5 and up. Like the adult version it is available in the same unusual design in a range of fun, vibrant colours, but the ISSA Mini also incorporates a unique design feature. Both brushes will pause when the required two minutes of brushing has been completed, but when children have finished, a smiley face lights up. If they stop too soon, a sad face lights up. This way children know and are encouraged to brush for longer, and parents can be confident that the whole family are brushing their teeth properly. We only wish the adult version had it too!
