Let your kids delve into the art world with BP Saturdays at the Tate Britain, London.

Tiny Tate is a free family event for children under 5. This weekly event takes place at the inconic Tate Britain and is devised for kids to explore light, sound and space all around the BP British Art Displays. Children are invited to have fun using their bodies to make soundscapes, play with light and become part of live installations.

The Tate Britain houses the national collection of British art from 1500 to the present day and international modern and contemporary art. A top tourist attraction for visitors to London, the Tate Britain also offers a selection of fun activities and exhibits for children.

BP Saturdays at the Tate include a variety of special events. Highlights include  the chance to take part in a unique sound installation in which music and sound is composed based on how you move. Sensors will detect your movement through a space to activate a musical composition.

Kids will also get the chance to create abstract geometric postcards to take home using the photographic printing process, cyanotype. They can also become part of a performance based on objects in the contemporary BP British Art displays.

Other activities include being able to capture an image with the help of an artist by passing objects over a digital scanner and to create something highly imaginative to take away with them. Children will also love the opportunity to create their own non-permanent shelter within the gallery, inspired by environmental art.

Tiny Tate is not only for the kids. Older family members will enjoy the exhibits on display equally and can take part in them alongside the kids. This is a great way to spend a weekend out, both enriching your kid’s knowledge of art, whilst also thoroughly entertaining them.
