No one enjoys a trip to the dentist but the staff here are warm, friendly and immediately make you feel welcome and at ease. First of all we met with Welbeck founder and cosmetic dentist Dr. Joe Oliver who explained that the tooth whitening treatment is made up of two procedures – an initial preparatory at-home kit, followed by an hour long in-house ‘power’ treatment. We were then booked in a few days later to have impressions made of our teeth and custom-fit trays were made up to use in our primary at-home treatment.
At home the trays are filled with a whitening gel and must be warn for at least four hours at a time, for four days prior to the in-house treatment. We found it was easiest to wear the trays overnight, as it is essential you do not eat or drink whilst they are in. If you do choose to wear them at night we recommend slathering on some nourishing lip balm, as your lips do tend to get dry with the trays in.
We returned to the clinic for the final procedure – an hour-long treatment of intensive bleaching which is accelerated using a high intensity plasma arc light. The treatment is slightly uncomfortable but by no means painful. The worst part is probably fitting all the contraptions in your mouth so you teeth are fully exposed to the light and out of the way of your mouth – leaving you feeling somewhat like ‘The Godfather’. The dentist applies the bleach three times in 20minutes slots and the time goes remarkable quickly and is actually strangely relaxing. The high concentration bleach did give our teeth a tingling feeling but nothing that was too uncomfortable.
The best bit about this treatment is that the results really are instant and we were left with a beaming smile six shades brighter. The downside is that there is no way of telling how much your smile will change prior to the treatment – it can be anything from a couple, to eight shades lighter so that is a risk you have to take. Our teeth were very sensitive for the rest of the day but again, that is dependent on each patient and it only lasted for one day.
The Welbeck Clinic’s tooth whitening treatment is an effective way to brightening your smile and can be completed within a week making it much easier to fit into your lifestyle than lengthy homecare kits. The results last for up to three years but it is recommended that you ‘top up’ with an at-home treatment after one year to 18 months.
