Books That Matter : the ideal subscription gift

What could be better than getting a gorgeous gift wrapped package delivered to your front door when the clocks have changed and the weather is feeling decidedly dark?

Now it’s autumn it is the perfect time to snuggle up on the sofa and indulge in you, and some well-deserved reading. Books That Matter started as a small business, founded by book lover Molly Masters when she was in her second year of an English Literature degree. Noting that most of the books she was supposed to study were written by men, fuelled her determination to discover strong female authors and share the love.

The idea soon escalated, and Books That Matter won the prestigious Female Start-Up of The Year Award; from then it has gone from strength to strength, and not only do you get a carefully chosen book in your goodie box, Molly and her team support other small female-run businesses so every month you’ll get additional treats from the likes of tote bags, reusable coffee mugs, cruelty-free nail varnish or recycled notelets which are all practical and useful (especially the organic chocolate!) along with a booklet with information on the theme and the companies who made the gifts and interviews with the authors.

It’s definitely a treat when the beautifully presented package arrives at your door- all because you’re worth it. This month’s featured book is the very heart wrenching story ‘How Beautiful We Were’ by Imbolo Mbue, which is based on a young woman from a small African village who starts a revolution against an American oil company who are wrecking the land and lives for the sake of profit. As I haven’t read any of Mbue’s books before, this is a great introduction and someone I will definitely earmark again- and this gripping book is ideal to enjoy with the accompanying tea and chocolate.

We should all take some time out for self-care, and whether it’s for you (as if someone has sourced your perfect birthday pressie) or you want to gift someone else, you can be sure you get or give the gift of words for just £17 per month.
