How to celebrate big lockdown birthdays in style

As the UK marks one year of lockdown, it’s likely everyone has celebrated at least one lockdown birthday – some may have even just celebrated their second lockdown birthday.

While that big day can’t be enjoyed as normal, maybe with a meal out with the whole family or an adventure abroad, there are creative ways you can celebrate a lockdown birthday in style.

The outdoor celebration

One of the best ways you can celebrate is outside. Whether the rule of six is in place, or some restrictions have been lifted more, an outside bash is the safest way to celebrate your special day.

Have a barbeque or ask everyone to bring their own food and drink and have the music blasting. If your birthday is in spring and summer, this is perfect for you.

To reduce the need for people to enter your home you should look to hire portable toilets for your garden. Find toilet hire across the UK to ensure your outdoor celebration has everything it needs to be amazing and safe.

The picnic on the bench

Once upon a time, before coffee shops became the must-visit place in society, picnics were a favourite among friends and families and a very popular way to socialise, especially in the 20th century. The year 2020 saw picnics return in full force as outdoor activities were encouraged.

So if you have a birthday coming up, grab the picnic blanket and basket and get ready to celebrate in the park. Fill the basket with your favourite snacks and sandwiches, take a portable speaker with you and get ready to relax under the sunshine (British weather permitting).

Virtual quiz

We know that lockdown virtual quizzes are like Marmite, people either love them or hate them. But if you can be with all of your friends or family in the same room, they are the perfect way to celebrate and mark the special occasion.

If you’re planning your own birthday bash, give someone else the task of being quiz master, they could even make a question round all about the year you were born to make it all about you.

Pamper night

Who says you have to spend your birthday with other people? If you want a little alone time to relax and pamper yourself, what better time to do it than on your birthday. Treat yourself to a new bath bomb, put on a soothing face mask and light a few candles to relax. Or you can grab a tub of ice cream and binge-watch a new TV show – do whatever pampering means to you.

Lockdown birthdays are a new experience for everyone, but with a little creativity, you make it a day to remember – whether you see friends and family in real life or virtually.
