The coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown have caused complete chaos in 2020 and created difficulties for people in many different ways. One of the more notable ways that it has disrupted life for lots of people is impacted engagement and wedding plans as people are so restricted in terms of what they can and cannot do.
So, if you are planning an engagement or wedding then what should you be doing right now?
Planning Engagements
Of course, timing is everything when it comes to a proposal and a survey by F Hinds revealed that, on average, the right time was within 2 years, 2 months and 19 days. Ultimately, the timing will come down to the couple and you should never feel rushed into popping the question and the coronavirus situation now makes the matter more complex.
If you have discussed the idea of getting married previously, the current situation may seem like a big hurdle to get over so you might want to delay. Equally, a lockdown proposal can be a nice idea during such a difficult period and give you both and your loved ones something to look forward to and you can start the planning now when you have more time on your hands, such as starting to look at wedding rings to get the ball rolling.
Planning a Wedding
The survey also revealed that Brits wanted to walk down the aisle within 2 years, 4 months and 24 days of the proposal. While life should return to normal by this point from now, you must also keep in mind that so many people have had to delay their wedding so it could be a busy few years ahead for venues. Therefore, you may want to wait a while longer before you pop the question if you do not want a long proposal.
Delaying
So, what about those that had plans to get married? The average wedding takes 200 hours to plan, so it is understandable just how frustrated people are that have had plans to get married which have now been disrupted. It is important to enquire with the venue to see if you could push the date back to next year, in which case you need to secure a date and then re-send save the dates to your guests as soon as possible.
Going Ahead
Alternatively, you can go ahead with the wedding as currently this is allowed with a maximum of 30 people. This may be quite different to what you had planned but it can still be a special day and you could then plan a celebration for when things start to return to normal.
The lockdown has been incredibly frustrating for those that have plans to get engaged or a wedding in the diary, but hopefully this post will be of some use and help you to make the best decision.
