Slightly off the beaten track of Clapham High Street is this contemporary restaurant, serving modern Japanese food and perfectly shaken cocktails…
My husband and I went along to Tsunami on a Friday afternoon to try their popular All You Can Eat menu- I love Sushi but my husband says it never satisfies his hunger, so being ‘all you can eat’ the challenge was set to fill him up!
The menu has a great choice without being overwhelming, including appetizers, mains, sushi wraps, nigiri and maki sushi rolls. For those new to a Japanese menu, the waiting staff are very helpful, enquiring the type of flavours you enjoy and helping you to order accordingly. We shared 3 warm appetizers of Nasu Goma (grilled aubergine with sesame paste), Edamame spring rolls (these were my favourite- seriously delish) and salt and chili pepper squid, all thoroughly enjoyed- in fact when I go back I’d be tempted to order more from the appetizers selection and have it like a kind of Japanese tapas.
I decided to pass on the bottomless bubbles (for an extra £15pp) as I still had the school run to do(!!) but I did try a favourite cocktail of mine, the Porn Star Martini, and it was one of the best I have ever had- the bar is slightly separate from the restaurant and has a great atmosphere- definitely worth visiting for pre-drinks if you are in the area for a night out.
Next on the order, we asked for a selection of sushi- it arrived on a huge platter, set out so beautifully I almost didn’t want to wreck it. But wreck it, we did- it was delicious! We were both stuffed; Tsunami 1- Husband 0!
Fridays are quite peaceful in the restaurant with a nice, chilled ambience, whereas Saturdays and Sundays are much livelier with a buzzy vibe. It’s the perfect place for dates, family meals (it’s very child friendly) or a get-together with friends, and ideal if you are trying Japanese food for the first time!
I will certainly be going back, probably on a weekend though to try out those bottomless bubbles!
