Spring is nearly upon us. The cold of winter is close to disappearing for another year. Of course, this is England, so spring is no guarantee of nice weather! But it will be warmer outside, with more daylight hours. A holiday is starting to sound like a much more attractive proposition, right?

One of the most popular springtime getaways in this country is the South West Peninsula. This houses the lovely areas of Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset.

We don’t often associate holidays in Britain with luxury. When someone says “luxury”, we’re more likely to think of holidays abroad. We think of sunny beaches in Spain, or cruises in the Mediterranean. But the truth is that luxurious breaks are easily found in the South West Peninsula. Here are a bunch of activities to consider in March and April.

Holiday parks

With a series of events occurring in spring, you may want to think about accommodation. What better way to take a break than in a holiday park? In-between events you can play golf or go swimming. There are even adventure playgrounds for children! Hoburne holiday parks are found all over the South West Peninsula, so you’ll be within reach of local events!

Easter at Beaulieu

Beaulieu is a motor museum just outside of Dorset. But as their slogan states, they’re much more than a motor museum! A bunch of thrilling activities will be taking place there during the Easter holidays. From March 25th to April 10th there will be a Mad Hatter Tea Party-themed activities! Face-painting, croquet and quiz trails will be available for kids and extra-fun grown-ups. The Easter Bunny will even be visiting on the Easter Weekend, March 25th-28th!

Monkeys and chocolate!

Monkey World is an ape and monkey sanctuary in Dorset. It’s a great place to visit any time of year. With twenty simian species and over 250 animals, you’re sure to see something amazing. It has been featured on television shows around the world. It is also responsible for several famous animal rescues. From Good Friday to Easter Monday, the first one hundred children to enter the park will be given a free chocolate egg. That probably means going in the morning, though. Make sure your kids have a nutritious breakfast, or they’ll be eating that Easter egg right away!

Motorbiking for a good cause

The annual BMAD Motorbike Festival takes place on the May Day Bank Holiday. Located in Devon, the festival lasts from April 29th – May 1st. It will appeal to anyone, motorbike fan or not! The festival began in 2002, started by a group of bikers who wanted to make a difference.  People from all over the country will be in attendance. Live music, motorbike stunts and beer tents will be there for your entertainment. BMAD raises thousands of pounds a year for charity. Funds will improve the life of sick and disadvantaged youths.

Cycling galore

If you prefer your two-wheeled vehicles without engines, consider the 2016 Cornwall Tor. The Tor takes place on May 1st. It offers three challenging cycle routes through the gorgeous Cornwall countryside. You can watch the event or take part. This is perfect for those who want to mix their springtime break with a little exercise!
