Hartwell House

Hartwell HouswLive like a Queen, and take a well-deserved break at King Louis XVIII’s, 17th century British base- Hartwell House.

Now is the perfect time for a weekend break in the UK. Even if the weather is a tad temperamental, it is always a treat to jump in the car and head out of town for some R & R.

Hartwell House is the ideal place to visit for some peace and tranquillity; It is also steeped in history, and only a one-hour drive from London, situated in the market town of Aylesbury; This makes it perfect for fidgets/shopaholics, as you can fill your boots at the curio shops in the quaint town or hit bargain hunter’s paradise Bicester Village which is a 25-minute drive away.

However, once you get ensconced in your grandiose suite, with thick velvet curtains, wood panelling, and if you’re lucky, four poster bed, you could easily stay for a week and not leave the grounds.

The Georgian manor house dates from the early Jacobean times, and is certified National Trust property. Situated in its own vast estate with lake, croquet lawn and tennis courts, and separate building hosting the Spa and pool, means you could easily enjoy a leisurely visit, soaking up the full experience and amenities.

Artfully restored décor after a fire in 1963, means the interior is in textbook condition, and although you are invited to relax in the drawing room, library and sitting room, perhaps with an indulgent, champagne afternoon tea, the ginormous bedrooms with comfortable sofas, radios and deep baths are equally as appealing.

Offering the perfect spot for a weekend spa break with a friend- take a good book, order a pot of tea and soak up the sunshine on the Spa terrace, in between dipping your toes in the peaceful, heated indoor pool; You can add a massage or facial and finish off your stay with a healthy walk around the grounds for the ultimate healthy weekend experience.

It is also the ideal place for an amorous getaway. Whether or not you are not a fan Downtown Abbey, take advantage of stepping into Countess of Grantham’s shoes, and enjoy the imposing gravel driveway, Rococo hallway and Princess staircase lined with mythical characters.

Romance is well and truly alive in this hotel and if I was on the market for a wedding location, I would definitely be tempted!
