Hally’s

Hally's, Parsons Green, LondonCombine wholesome and delicious food, Californian beach house interiors, a romantic and cosy atmosphere with attentive and friendly staff and you get Hally’s – a truly perfect gem located just a stone’s throw from the popular Parsons Green Park in Fulham.

Opened in 2013 by lovely husband and wife duo, Anna Halliday and Philip Beatty, on the mission to bring Californian style eating to London, Hally’s has now become a well-known establishment for not just the healthy eating clan, but for all of those who want hearty, fresh and delectable food.

The restaurant is ram packed on the weekend for their weekly changing brunch menu and is a regular haunt for those wanting to grab a spot of afternoon tea with their beloveds – and we mean those of the canine variety! The focus of the menu is to provide bold flavours and seasonal ingredients all teamed with a sprinkle of sunshine! They put on the table daily changing salads, an assortment of delightful cakes and baked treats alongside serving west coast American favourites such as juicy burgers and succulent pulled pork.

StyleNest were kindly invited to try out their newly launched dinner service, which focuses on serving seasonal dishes with fragrant wines and divine cocktails. With the promise of summer flavours and a relaxed and cool vibe, how could we say no in this dull and dark month of January?

As we enter the restaurant we already feel transported to a cosy beach hut on the coastline of Malibu. The restaurant is decorated with delightful accessories, reclaimed wooden floors, pastel dipped chairs, white clapboarding and neon signage, all augmented by mood lighting and tables lit only by candlelight.

We start with their side of cooked Padron Peppers and browse the daily cocktail specials. We couldn’t resist ordering the Coconut Mojito and take the advice of our server and choose their Tipsy Lemonade: a fusion of chamomile-infused tequila, Cocchi Americano, triple sec, lemon and honey deliciousness. If the ambience wasn’t enough to get us in the chilled, Californian “vibey” mood, then the cocktails definitely did the trick.

Our starters arrived promptly and perfectly – a creamy, warming and tasty carrot soup with warm sourdough loaf and a plate of lightly battered, juicy and crispy calamari teamed with a savoury soy dip and sweet mango jelly. The starters provide the best of both worlds for each and every one of us – soups for those wanting warmth from the cold, salads served in true LA style, fresh and traditional Italian burrata and tomato salad or inspiring vegetarian options such as a delicious looking stuffed courgette flower – we eyed up the table next door!

Our mains are just as we expect: pure and utter heaven on a plate. We decided to share their oven roasted sole and the Californian chopped salad, however there was no way either of us were giving up a bite of our meals! The sole tasted as fresh as if it was caught just an hour ago, and was elegantly dressed with delicious sauces, whilst the Californian salad was the furthest from dull we have ever seen in a salad: beans, quinoa, colour and flavour – a truly succulent salad. The sides failed to disappoint, and our favourite had to be the garlicky spinach which was packing some serious punch!

Having eaten well with nibbles, sides, starters and mains, most sane people wouldn’t squeeze in a dessert, but there was no way we were missing a sweet treat after eying up their afternoon cake display on the way in. The braised pineapple with coconut was summertime in a mouthful and their crumble was a fantastic combination of comfort food and fruity flavour – no sickly sweet sugar highs here, just pure good cooking.

We left Hally’s feeling perfectly satisfied on all fronts, and yet still virtuous. The food is fresh and light and isn’t overpowering or heavy, and the atmosphere of the restaurant complements this perfectly. Whether for a romantic dinner, afternoon tea or delightful brunch, Hally’s has truly brought a bite of California to our side of the pond! We look forward to trying out their seasonal summer and spring menus.
