Featuring one of Europe’s largest hydro therapy pools and winner of several awards The Woodland Spa provides a calming and idyllic place to unwind.

When I was asked to review the Global Luxury Spa of the year I was surprised to discover it was in Burnley- not usually a location you would associate with pampering days. From a personal perspective it was perfect timing, I was running on empty after several stressful months and was desperate for some peace, quiet and pampering! I was not disappointed. Set in 100 acres of woodland scenery, the serene countryside views, including the summit of Pendle Hill, were enough to relax me. The luxury destination has had millions of pounds invested in it with more plans in the pipelines to make it even more appealing.

Arriving at lunch time on a truly glorious sunny spring day, we headed to the outdoor area first for a spot of tapas and cocktails. The sociable outdoor space truly felt like we were in the Mediterranean, and we were lucky enough to soak up the sunshine  on the loungers and dip in and out of the pool and hot tubs. Afterwards we ventured inside to try the spa. Luckily you are given a map of the facilities, which is very useful as there are so many. It also makes recommendations on which order to enjoy the experiences. We started with the Roman foot bath for a reflexology massage from a heated seat and made our way through the bubbly hydro pool, the sauna, steam rooms and saunarium. The serenity pool forms the main relaxation space, a dark room which is lit up by a firewall. There’s a warm pool in the centre of the room and comfortable loungers around the edge; the perfect place to chill out and take a nap.

The Spa offers treatments from both Decléor and Carita. I experienced the Glow Power Boost facial which used exquisite massage techniques and left my complexion looking a lot less tired. The experience was completed relaxing in the post-treatment room featuring comfortable loungers with cosy blankets and cushions. After many hours of enjoying the blissful spa we headed to our room to get ready for the night. The room was finished to the highest standard, tastefully decorated with gorgeous soft furnishings and featured super soft towels and lux Neom toiletries. They also offer an exclusive apartment which can accommodate up to six people- the perfect location for a hen do/ girls weekend away. Our day was finished off enjoying a delicious meal in Bertam’s an adult-only restaurant and cocktail bar. The food was an amazing mix of modern and retro with an emphasis on using locally reared meat and locally sourced products. The perfect ending to a perfectly relaxing day.
